Strike this week. Will be interesting to see what the passenger loadings are like on the 87,77,156,337,131 and H37 to name a few few. Only half of SWR services will run from tomorrow for 27 days

SWR in talks with the DfT in regards to their future: I was wondering how badly the strike would affect SWRs profitability and it seems my doubts were right. I don't see a renegotiated contract happening because this is basically handing Stagecoach a court case that could quite likely swing in their favour. I imagine nationalisation is what will happen in the end.

SWR have made a statement regarding this, however due a conflict of interest I canât share all of it.
It cited that âconstructive talks with the DfT as regards a new contract for the continued operation of the franchised train service.â The other outcome is that the contract will end with an Operator of Last Resort being roped in.
ââ
Briefly changing the subject, all Siemens Desiro 444 and 450 units have been internally refurbished. Repaints are starting with a few 444/450 outshopped in the grey/blue.
Also, following modifications (to prevent signalling interference which forced the initial grounding) six of the 442 fleet has been reinstated.
Finally, the first 701s are expected to begin testing âin the coming weeksâ, with first entry to service in the summer (on the Reading line).

SWR losses are ÂŁ137m in year to 31 March 2019 and Parent company has had to bail them out (strictly losses are ÂŁ8m for that year, but they feel obliged to provide for loss of bond as might be handing back keys) They are trying to negotiate with DfT regarding infrastructure delays and compensation

Won't happen but imagine if Virgin bidden for the franchise or Stagecoach returned.

Won't happen but imagine if Virgin bidden for the franchise or Stagecoach returned. Maybe they will in the future? Have Stagecoach or Virgin said they won't return? I belive Virgin wanted to run services to Liverpool via an open access agreement.

The Desiro fleet 444 and 450 have been refurbished internally with final one re-entering service earlier in January The last ones to be done were the 450s which had been converted to high density, they are back to normal now
Very few have yet been repainted externally yet into new SWR colours
