Have just seen a photo on Facebook of Croydon based SE152 on Great Northern Rail Replacement at Stevenage with what looks to be a skirt painted on it. Apparently it has joined the commercial fleet which is rather surprising given that its perfectly compliant to use on another route

I never got to ride it while it was at Croydon but I was hoping to eventually

Travelled on WS65 on the 386 a couple of nights ago. Previous trips have been very smooth but the whole bus was vibrating when stopped on this occasion. Sadly a lot of vibration is standard for these Mercedes engines, no matter what bus it is in. They appear in the Streetlite, Streetdeck, Solo, Versa, Metrocity and Metrodecker. And to balance it out, you can get a lot of vibration from other types too

I wonder if they should have trialled it as a diesel, then potentially challenged manufacturers to make a Hybrid version of their tri-axle buses. I pretty much agree with this. Sadly trialling diesel buses would fail all the politics at City Hall and with certain Assembly members. Therefore it was never a goer. The use of the Vantage kit was clearly an attempt at a cheap expedient to get something into trial service. I suspect we will not see hybrid versions of tri-axle buses like the Enviro 500 or Volvo B8L. I know there have been a couple of trial vehicles in Hong Kong but nothing seems to have happened since. There is not the same political pressure in Hong Kong, Singapore or the USA to force the main manufacturers to mass produce hybrids through the ordering strategies of the bus operators. I suspect the next step in the Far East will be electric tri-axle double deckers - probably produced by BYD. This may result in UK / European manufacturers losing a lot of Far East business unless they do something very clever very soon. Of course London is getting its own all electric deckers very shortly. I also think that high capacity deckers are off the agenda with TfL. The idea was undoubtedly an "old regime" one (first cited by Leon Daniels at the LT Museum) and we know what has happened to actually employing people who understand buses in senior positions in TfL Buses. Oh yes - there aren't any! I didn't know they'd moved Leon Daniels into the LT Museum, glad he's been preserved after London use Plucky start up Vantage were lucky to get the chance to be let loose on so many buses, but sadly to disastrous effect Sadly every thing TfL does (except PCN penalties) is on the cheap nowadays, Wifi and USB charging should be standard on all buses. It's a shame that TA1 has barely turned a wheel. They need to rip the Vantage kit out and leave it as a proper diesel, it's Euro6, so could still run on its route

It would appear not but i cant say that as fact. One is definitely going out Friday for route testing. There are doubts on the steering lock so they could well pass the 227 due to the route being fairly straight but there is a bigger question mark on the 358. Time will tell. I wonder if the left turn into Crystal Palace bus station on the 227 will be a problem? And the left turn into South Eden Park Road on the 358 as well as turns at Penge and Anerley? And the left turn from Farnborough Hill into Sevenoaks Road on the 358.

I'd actually go as far as saying it applies to all Euro5 B5LHs regardless of operator. Go Ahead WHVs are also horrible for vibration. Not always felt sitting upstairs near the front, but downstairs you'll definitely notice. Same applies to loads of FW Euro4 SPs too, for many years they've been worse for vibration than those at other garages.
