Looks like my daily commute to college gets more exciting when the 2009 ts arrives on the Victoria line. There's been some speculation on the exact date of when they make officially their debut. I've heard that it's gonna be in December but another source say it's mid-2009. So does anyone have any idea when are these lovely trains gonna come into service?

At the moment I think only the two pre-production run ones (for testing) have been built, the 45 production ones are still to follow. These could only be built once any problems with the test ones were identified and sorted for production batch
The manufacturers, Bombardier Derby, expect them to enter service over a 2 year period, (there are 47 trains, scheduled to leave the factory every 15 days once series production is up and running) so some of the old trains will still be in services until 2011 or even early 2012

What's been said is pretty much spot on - traffic hours testing should have already started, but has slipped and probably won't start until July now.
The original Plan for entry into public service was December 2009, but whether or not this slippage will affect that we'll have to wait and see. Mind you, there are £££'s riding on the entry into service date within the contract of course, so I'd expect every effort will be made to achieve the plan.....

Newsflash: According to another forum, the first of the new trains has officially entered service last night. Train 277, Seven Sisters to Brixton only, 23:55. It was a 'compatability test' run, a shake down against the 1967ts. Had anything gone wrong, they would have had the rest of the night to put things right 'quietly'. Interestingly, Tim O'Toole turned up to see it. Not often you get brass, let alone ex-brass, out and about at that time of night with not a photo-op in sight. Good for him!

This was in Modern Railways magazine which came out yesterday. It is a 6 train compatibility test, 2 new and 4 old run in various order combinations to see if new following old etc when stopped at signals etc causes problems.

Official diagrams of the new 2009 start next week initially late evenings on Tuesday, Thursday Friday and Saturday.
The first 2009 stock in passenger service did indeed run on Tuesady night as I was on board that very train! I am actaully liking teh new trains, especially the improvements to the interior.

I suppose he's only counting newly-designed trains and not top-ups based on existing stock (as is the case for the Jubilee)? Tangy you lucky man What improvements have been made to the interior? I recall when the mock-up 2009TS was on display at Euston a few years ago there were many comments made about the low comfort level of the seating - has this been rectified?

Well I cannot comment on comparison between teh real thing and the mock-up that was on display as I never did visit the mock up.
My comments come from actaully bashing the real thing. The seats are all sideways facing (pity I liked the forward facing seats in the driving motor coaches).
Also there is much more light in each coach, as the ends of each coach now have windows all the way across (not just in the end door) and saloon lighting has been improved.
Air cooling is also another welcome feature and it works, as when the doors opened at stations you could feel the hot air from the platform rush in! The doors have a visible flashing sign as well as the chimes when the doors are closing
Other features include next station displays above the seats together with a new set of announcements. The acceleration of the units is pretty quick and so are the brakes!!
As for the seats, I found them fairly comfy though they are designed for short distance journeys. Wonder how long the armrests will remain in place for!!

Sounds really promising, especially the air cooling system - I'll have to take a ride on one as and when more of them start entering all-day passenger service. I was lucky enough to ride on one of the new trains just earlier at around 2:45pm. Seeing that it's a one-off chance, I've recorded a short clip of it at Stockwell which will be uploaded later on. I was gonna record the full journey to Brixton, but unfortunately my battery died as soon as the train departed. Sorry to bring up this old thread BTW.
