Does anyone know why this line has never had any new stations added or any extensions?
There probably hasnt been any because it might not be possible, but i havent heard about it being impossible before.
I think extensions could be made further into South London, seeing as there isnt many tube lines there. Places such as the area around Lambeth Bridge, and Vauxhall might be a good option. Northbound, I think extensions to Liverpool Street, Old Street, Hoxton, Islington might be good.
Additional stations on the existing line could be added. On the Central London bus map, it looks like the W&C follows the Circle lines until it crosses the river. Maybe Blackfriars could be a new station.

Because it was never intended for any other purpose than to give the Southern Railway (as it was then) a 'presence' in the City of London for its wealthy commuters who rode into Waterloo. It was recently sold to TfL for the princely sum of £1 IIRC. Extension past Bank is not possible as I understand it, due to the presence of other railway tunnels, utilities and the like, and at the Waterloo end the blanket coverage by Southern Electric would have rather defeated the objective!

The shortage of lines South of the river is due to the rock being harder and more difficult to tunnel through compared to the north side of the river. As Bighat says above the Waterloo and City line was BR controlled until 1994 and was only originally built i by the LSWR (London and South Western Railway) to give the customers from Waterloo a line to get into the center of the city. add the vault of the bank of england there alongside the W&C and Central lines ;D Urban myth. Because when the CLR was being constructed, they had a little more common sence than now, and kept the lines away from the vaults, well away. Wouldn't that be the perfect way to break into the Bank of England ;D
