Im going to miss the seats, all the seats now are going to be normal underground seats which are ideal for short commutes, but the Metropolitain Line reaches far out into the country

Thanks Some A Stock may get to their 50th birthday as the replacements will be phased in over many months until mid 2011 www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/projectsandschemes/10143.aspxif you click on other subsurface lines (H&C, dist, circle etc) buttons on left of link you get other photos of the prototype

Update on S stock
Train 1 is at Derby doing tests on equipment (brakes, electrical interference etc) Train 2 is at the test track (the Old Dalby line, just north of Melton Mobray) of which 4km has 4 rail electrifiction added so they can reach top speed of 100km/h (62mph) Train 3 construction just started, this is first to full passenger spec (no test equipment)
First train in service is expected to be about May 2010
Once the S stock for Met is built, production continues in 2011 with 7 car trains for Circle and H&C lines
Build schedule is 58 x 8car = 464 delivered 2009-2011 for Metropolitan 53 x 7car = 371 2011-2013 for Circle and H&C 80 x 7car = 560 2013-2015 for District total 1395 cars
There is a set of articles pages 47-60 in Sept Modern Railways magazine (current edition on newsstands) on S stock, Met modernisation, underground update, worth buying if you are interested in Met line. It even describes some parts of S stock are Chinese

I can imagine the seats on these trains are going to be hard and uncomfortable..like most new build trains and buses these days. Im definatly going to miss the A-stock from the Met...decent seats in decent positiions (not the stupid facing seats on most tube stock). The reason i'm bringing this up again is because I was on the Met today, and it made me realise how great the A-stock are. Another point, why cant TfL cut back a little on these new trains. Fair enough, alot of this stock is the oldest on the network, and could do with replacing. I think theres at least another 5 years for the Met, with 10 for the H&C and Circle. For the District though, these could wait until at least after the olympics...recently refurbished etc. I will also miss the variety on the cut-and cover lines...after these new trains come in it will all be just S stock and nothing else.
Then again, if we just stayed in the past all the time, we would get nowhere.

I caught the Met earlier from Baker Street to Uxbridge, running number 430. At Finchley Road the driver came over the PA "This is a Metropolitan line service calling all stations to Uxbridge and additionally at Willesden Green" set off, built up speed, charged into Willesden Grn, obviously the driver forgot he had to stop there, about a 3rd of the way up the platform the driver went to slam the anchors on but quickly realised we wouldn't stop so we carried on (at a crawl) to Wembley Park. The driver didn't even come over the PA apologising for the mistake. Upon arriving at Wembley, (I was in the 1st carriage) a signalman came out the box, laughing his head off! came down to the cab, the driver said something to him to which he replied "I wouldn't worry about it!" Could the driver get into trouble for this?

That wasn't a signalman. If he had a white shirt it would be his manager. He he had a blue shirt he would be a fellow train operator (or a station assistant).
If it was a normal stopping station he would probably be taken off the train for interview, but because Willesden Green is rarely called at, it'll probably just get covered up. Which is wrong. Send in an e-mail, also include the conduct of the other member of staff as it is not a World Class way to act after delaying customers!

... It even describes some parts of S stock are Chinese Shock horror, Chinese parts? You know the Chinese now build complete trains too and buses for that matter, and guess what? They aren't too bad...

Sorry to bump this old thread. I've found some footage on YouTube of one of the new trains on a test run. I must say that it has a lot in common with the 2009 TS.

I have to agree. The A Stock are just truly the greatest LUL Stock. I would love to launch a fund to preserve at least one unit but that wont happen will it.
Last I heard was 21001 and 21002 were at Neasden Depot.
