I have a few questions to members who can answer I'll much appreciate?
Is Oxford a decent place to live & is it better and faster moving than London? It was pretty quiet now as I arrived after 8pm but still loads of people about.
I have actually just returned back from Oxford, it was great taking the 24/7 running Oxford tube which is run by Stagecoach. I only went for a day trip so it's hard to know if it's a nice place or not.
Tbh I am thinking of getting a transfer to Stagecoach Oxfordshire it pays the same or even more than London. I spoke to a few public members when I was touring and they said it's as expensive as living in London.
Mentioned before I did mention moving to Stagecoach South, Worthing, however the pay isn't great and it's further away to East end of London. No 24/7 connections to London if my family need assistance.
London is just getting over crowded and the bus network is terrible. I can't imagine driving a bus here IF that speed limiter thing is introduced.
Thoughts from all, much appreciated. Thanks

Thanks Oxford is quite touristy and dominated by the Universities, obviously busy during term times, quieter during the holidays. Not sure what you mean by faster paced, would say lot more chilled out Traffic can be painful in some parts, but lots of bus lanes and getting around by bus is easy Housing costs vary considerably in the area, some of its outer areas and nearby towns are much cheaper, Bicester is much cheaper (and expanding rapidly), I quite like Abingdon as everyone was friendly

So it's more chilled than London? Glad that it's easy to get around by bus as it's not now in London.

Are drivers allowed to turn of regenerative braking on hybrids?

Didn't any of T84-117 have kickdown switches? Possibly. Some of them always had the kickdown working well before TopoDyn came into populace - T110, T112 and T115. Abellio's equivalents from the same generation, 9467-9523 all have a physical restrictor under the pedal and all except 9482 and 9483 had it disabled. The original Euro 5s on the 38 - T67-71 I think had it working from new - youtu.be/h4sbKlSjgNINo only T66 and T69 had it.

Are drivers allowed to turn of regenerative braking on hybrids? I don't know, but I would expect the answer to be no. Why would they need or want to? (and yes, I am genuinely curious).

I think I have a vid somewhere of one of that batch with kickdown, it is very obvious when working.

Harsh, or just working to rule? I have just been on an R1 that ignored potential passengers hailing the driver to stop in Orpington High Street. Yes, the stop was marked as closed, but there was already a decker stopped in the cage, no obvious reason for the closure, no dolly stop, and nearest alternative stops are 1/4 mile away. Comments? Working to rule. Many years ago, before the claim culture (no win no fee, ambulance chasers, I'll sue you) I would have risked it. Now I do not blame anyone for not stopping at a closed bus stop. There have been incidents I have known where someone has tripped entering a bus and then the company has lost being sued by the person who the driver was doing a good deed for. One driver this happened to around 5 years ago, TfL came back and ultimately said it was his fault, the company also blamed the driver and he ended up with a disciplinary resulting in a final caution.

Thanks for the reasoned response. I understand that the driver cannot be criticised for abiding by the regulations. My main concern is the absence of a dolly, given the distances involved. They usually have to get permission IIRC to site a dolly stop from the council. If there is no safe place, then it doesn't happen.

Are drivers allowed to turn of regenerative braking on hybrids? It cannot be turned off from the cab, same as EBS, ABS. The only thing on some buses that has an off switch in the cab is a brake retarder. Some buses don't have an off switch. Regenerative braking would be able to be switched off by engineers if they needed to working on it etc.

Two observations from the journey on the 38 yesterday, from Red Lion Street to Picc Circus
1. An 8 was on stand at Tottenham Ct Rd with its hazards on. I would find this incredibly annoying as a (bus) driver, given there was another LT directly behind it, which made it look like it had its indicator on to pull out. In fact, our bus assumed as much, and gave it plenty of space for it to pull out - only to find out there was no driver in the cab. The 1s around the corner are able to be on stand without the hazards, so it's not exactly alien not to use them....
2. No announcement of Dean Street/Chinatown stop being closed before the stop, and we drove straight past. With a foot injury, I would have hopped out at Cambridge Circus - a shorter walk to where I was going in Chinatown, than the walk I ended up having to do nearer Picc Circus. Very frustrating.

The E6 really needs double deckers the bus that I’m on is packed. The 92 and 105 needs a frequency increase.

The route is always packed to the brim.

I don't know the E5 very well but what I can say is this, if a route is using short buses then its usually for a reason, ie there's a length restriction on the route. If you know the E5 route well and don't think that longer buses would be a problem then I'm all for longer buses.
