As some of you might know Tramlink would like to buy more vehicles and double some of the tracks. The old CR-4000s are no longer in production. What type do you think will be ordered? A32s?

Shame the CR4000 range is no longer in production. Not so convinced with the A32 and its completely hideous appearance. I would love to see what they look in the tramlink livery though.

Well i would not go as far as "completely hideous". Its just some slight front facelift, the rest is pretty much the same.Inside there are some seat rearrangements compared to the CRs so its more spacious. The articulation joint is also very slightly modified but its just a visual change. Again,i am not sure the vehicles will be A32s but i just don't see what else they could be.TFL said they want double section Bombardiers so...

Just increasing the fleet. www.railnews.co.uk/news/metro/2009/04/01-tfl-croydon-tramlink.htmlThe post says something about second hand vehicles but since there are none delivered yet, probably the machines will be brand new.In addition i can guarantee at least for Istanbul there are no free low floor trams available.Berne is also out of question since they use 1000mm gauge not the standart 1435mm like Tramlink.

yeah wikipedia says the following
As of July 2009[update], the Tramlink fleet is 24 strong, with four more trams planned. To avoid the extra costs of a short production run, Tramlink is seeking to lease these from another European city. To accommodate the extra capacity, some sections of single-track line may be doubled

Well, it all depends on who the new Mayor will be.When the extension is finally given green light they'll have to buy lots of new trams anyway. However, since the current vehicles have just been through a capital repairs(except 2534) i believe they'll be fully replaced not before ~2014.

They need to spend money in order to make money. Just think of the amount of revenue they would make out of this extention.
