It looks as if the plans to take the underground driverless are going to go forward.
The Central line is already driverless except for some reason on Sundays
Many european systems are already totally drivererless. The Paris Metro line 14 has already gone over and it is planned to convert the rest of the lines.

Plus we will have the Jubliee Line some time soon and the Northern LIne. But I dont think we would ever go compleatly NOPO in this country in our life time though.

NOPO systems are normally built to be like that, the unions wouldnt like it, the system is not reliable enough to go NOPO, and ATO is by no means NOPO

Because they would need at least 2 members of staff at every station, which would work out costing more than having P.S.A.s on the train.I know the old B92 stock has a function to go fully driverless. But the new B2007's do no have such a function.

I don't see 100% driverless trains being a reality, especially on the Northern Line where the signalling's so outdated that the rolling stock is governed to 60% power (hence the lack of performance in comparison to the Jubillee and Central Line trains). The Doclklands has a possibility as it's less than twenty-five years old and is a lot more easier to upgrade.

The Northern line trains were prewired for Auto train operation, the installation of equipment could be done when signalling is replaced in next decade. The power restriction is due to weak power supply cables and substations (which were designed for previous generation trains), not signal restrictions (the trains are designed to avoid electric interference by avoiding certain frequencies in the motors) The earlier note about manual driving on Sundays is done to remind staff how to use manual drive when auto drive isn't available, if auto was used all the time they might have forgotten what to do, when an emergency requires manual driving.

Thanks on that. When in the next decade will the upgrade happen? Those 95/96 stock trains have been on the line about 10 years now and i believe they're on a 20 year lease.

The Northern is meant to be done within five years. The new service control room is already built. There are many many places more ancient than the Northern though - they are actually rather advanced!

Have obtained some more info on the Northern Line signalling, it is being done by Thralls and scheduled to be installed on whole line by late 2012

They have to finish the Jubilee line first before they really get into the Northern. The Jubilee is not going too well!
