You are given a Zone 3-4 bus pass. Starting at Edgware, how would you get to Harrow-on-the-Hill? You must cross the River Thames at least twice and no doubling back allowed (except for short stretches in towns where you might change buses)! Routes you might want to use include the 220, 221 and 222. I will post my own route later on . Some rules as this has been changed to a quiz; You are not allowed to venture into Zones 1 or 2 at all. You cannot use any route that goes into Zone 1 or 2 i.e the 32, 113 or N16. The exception to this rule is the 220. All you have at your disposal is a Zone 3 - 4 bus pass. You have to use public transport and you can't use anything that might get you penalty fared.

221 to Wood Green, 123 to Ilford, 366 to Beckton, 474 to Manor Park, 104 to Stratford, 108 to North Greenwich, 161 to Woolwich, 51 to Orpington, 353 to Addington, 466 to Purley, 412 to West Croydon, X26 to Heathrow (crosses Thames), 105 to Southall, H32 to Hounslow, 222 to Uxbridge, 331 to Ruislip, 114 to Harrow-on-the-Hill.
That's an example. To throw some spice into the challenge, no routes you use are allowed to touch Zone 2, even if you don't go into Zone 2 (use a tube map as a rough guide). This invalidates the above route as one of the routes goes into Zone 2. Walking between routes is limited to 5 minutes otherwise the route doesn't count.

Didn't know that zones affected bus ticketing/operations nowadays. Also thought that the quizmaster was supposed to KNOW the answers! Well, if the east London section is anything to go by, he doesn't. WHY would you take a 366 on a long diversion round the back streets of Ilford, to eventually arriving somewhere on the 474 route, which he then takes all the way to Manor Park, when he could have alighted at Lonsdale Avenue (and avoided the charms of High Street North and South in East Ham) and taken another back street special all the way to Stratford. From Ilford, he could have caught the 'refugee bus' to Stratford (or a route 86 if he was intending to pay, and wanted a seat) to access the 108 to cross the river. I shudder to think what the rest of it is like! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Is it a quiz to see how many services you can use to get round London the quickest, if so, you could use the 75 from Lewisham to Croydon ;D ;D

The 25 and 108 go into Zone 2 at Bow so you cannot use them ;D. It is a quiz to test your knowledge of routes which specifically do not provide N-S/E-W type links into Central London, such as the 221.
The quicker the journey the better, although you are only allowed to use buses that run exclusively in Zones 3 and 4. The 220 is the only exception to the rule because I mentioned it in the original post. I try to make quizzes that test knowledge and not how well you can use londonbusroutes.net to cheat ;D.

So since oyu cannot use Route 108 and the Route 104 thing is a bit too long. How about from Beckton. Take Route 474 to North Woolewich, the free ferry. Walk under the thames and continue with 51 to Orpington and ect....

I was hoping someone would realise the free ferry was the only option to cross on the eastern side. Looking for more variation on the route I posted though as there are plenty of other options.

Well thats a load of old tosh then! It was YOU who suggested the 108, and the 104. If the 25 goes into this non-existant zone 2, so do BOTH of the routes you suggested. Same for the 86. Jamaicarussia's suggestion of the Woolwich Ferry or foot tunnel is a good idea, but you can forget both in you OWN stipulated time of FIVE minutes. A quiz is one thing, but a farce is something else. You REALLY should have considered this more carefully before proposing it! ;D

It takes less than 5 minutes from the bus stop at North Woolwich to the ferry and about 5 minutes to walk to the 180 bus stop at the other end once it has arrived.
Route 25 goes into Zone 1. West of Bow Flyover is Zone 2 is it not? Stratford is is Zone 3, so routes like the 86 and 104 which go further out would be valid to use. The principle of this quiz is knowing which routes link the important places in the outer reaches of London, without heading towards Central London. I did state that the route I posted had an invalid route (the 108) to see if anyone would pick up on the ferry having to be used.

And I think you said NO MORE than a five minute walk between routes. At the ferry you will take a LOT longer than five minutes, trust me!

If you have a bicycle, just cycle. Even though there is cameras. When I had my scooter, I would scooter through lol. I have realsed that those lifts rarely work. I feel sorry for those people who just sit in the lfts for hours, going up and down, pressing th button. I mst admit that it feels kind of safe and feel as if your at a posh hotel when your inside the lieft, with someone pressing the button for you,but the scenery does not match it lol But yeah...... I usually walk under the thames (it is so weird saying that lol). I burn plenty of calories walking the width of the river and walking the depth (up and down) lol

Have only ever used that tunnel once in my life and it creeped me out completely lol I've used it three times but I try not to. Does look very dodgy just like the one underneath Norwood Junction Station. I normally take the Woolwich Ferry for the view. I mean there isn't much to see in a tunnel ;D

I've used it only once too. From the North Woolwich end into Woolwich proper, at 8:30 in the morning, accompanied by some people heading to work in the other direction. It still had me trembling. Cannot begin to imagine it late at night when the local gangs hang out at both ends (judging by the graffiti I saw there last time) Have only ever used that tunnel once in my life and it creeped me out completely lol
