I was told that these messages can only be sent by Centrecomm (and perhaps garages too) in the same way text messages are sent to the driver. I assume this would be to give out information about disruptions etc to passengers along with the remote PA announcements that can be done. Therefore in this situation I would say it was one of the control staff having a laugh rather than the driver doing it himself.

I believe thats the case as well. I get lots of messages from ibus controllers telling me to hold back and even had the 'regulate the service' annouced without my consent It would be nice if we were able to communicate with the passengers with our own messages. There is one option we can't use on the ibus system which, I believe is the engineers button. Whe pressed, you have to insert a password but us drivers don't know it

As mentioned the garage controller can send anything they like to the driver in a message/instruction. I am under then impression that they can also send messages to passengers via the on bus screen. Here is an example of a message that can be sent by controllers to drivers. It is annoying that you can only reply with pre set messages.

That must be very annoying. Also, I think it would be quite strange as you would know the controller is seeing wherever you are going, a bit like Big Brother (not the programme).

It is annoying that you can only reply with pre set messages. Can you, hand on heart, say that you wouldn't abuse that system if you could reply with your own messages? Thought not! That must be very annoying. Also, I think it would be quite strange as you would know the controller is seeing wherever you are going, a bit like Big Brother (not the programme). While having the controllers play the 'this bus is being held here' messages can be annoying, we drivers all know they are watching us over iBus anyway regardless of whether they play that message or not

There Always Was 2 Different Options: Briefly/A Few Minutes
Most Drivers Play This bus is being held here in order to help regulate the service so i don't know if the other option has been removed
Prepahs a driver might know ?

As it goes I checked this out today on a bus. The announcement actually plays: "This bus is being held here briefly in order to help regulate the service."

Unless its been changed its "1234" which still works on our buses, but it only tells you the inner workings like the fact that it uses o2 to communicate and radio frequency etc. I believe thats the case as well. You can't actually change anything but as you say you can view lots of information, Including what direction you are facing displayed in degrees from north (ie if it says 180 then you are facing exactly south) and how many meters to your next bus stop!!
