As mentioned earlier this is the only camera in the area close to Beckton (sorry I did forget earlier until it occurred to me, I use this road almost daily as well! ) .
This is not a forward facing camera its only in one direction towards the A13 so can only catch a bus travelling in the Beckton direction.
I really don't want to come across like I am doubting you but what I think happened was a car in the other direction triggered the flash and being dark caused a large flash that bounced off the bus. I know the area well and even at 11.30pm most of the shops on this road would still be open and its always busy so can't see a bus getting over 30 on this stretch. Was thinking about drivers of the N550/1 I assume lots transferred from Tower Transit so know the route inside out.
I will gladly eat humble pie if I have got all this wrong
Dont worry, it’s fair enough if you think that I can see why you might question it and I’m not taking it personally however it’s definitely not that one as it was waaaay before Custom House, this camera is after. In a little while I’ll be able to look properly so I’ll get back to you soon This is before Custom House
No worries got me curious now to where this camera is.

Yes it is that one now I’ve looked properly it’s jogged my memory now, I remember being absorbed in thinking there was a Mortlake Road in east London when the real Mortlake is in west London so yeah it was definitely the camera that flashed. I’m now frantically trying to look on speed camera websites to see if that particular camera is a dual-direction camera. In the event that that Google Streetview is out of date and the camera has been upgraded since that photo was taken, which is possible. If not, then yes it wasn’t the bus and it was an oncoming vehicle but yes definitely that camera. One of the 20mph speed cameras in the isle of dogs is a dual direction camera so they do exist, the one at Maconochies Road bus stop. So it’s very possible that my N551 camera could be too if upgraded recently. Very annoyingly I’m not going back to the area for a while now so can’t see it for myself. If it’s not been upgraded there’s a good chance I confused the dashed lines depicting the zone the speed camera can catch you with the dashed lines depicting the edge of the bus stop as the camera is placed right in front of stop E Tree Road. If it’s still one way only then definitely another vehicle triggered it

If the fine goes through and processed, it would be sent to the bus company, requiring the drivers details to submit to police/dvla. THey driver would then get the notice of intended prosecution, with fine, speed/awareness course or 3 points on licence. The driver would be made to kneel down in front of everyone in the canteen and get flogged with an old alternator drive belt. Just kidding about the last sentence.
Is it a sackable offence in the case of a bus driver? Yes it is a sackable offence.

decker shortage for the 26? Without LVF I can't be sure but think it was staged for filming as they probably had no spare deckers. The bus was very empty it might have run a short trip. Just see it on London Tonight he seems a genuine really nice person.

decker shortage for the 26? Considering that 1295 was doing a short working to Ash Grove and the fact it didn't turned around to go back to Waterloo, I wouldn't be surprised if this bus was used as a publicity/media coverage for Patrick and 1295 is right now out on the D6 instead.

decker shortage for the 26? I am pretty sure the footage was staged specifically for the news article, and 1295 was not actually in service. It seems to take place along Hackney Road, and at Ash Grove Garage.

He was on Twitter yesterday (on a TfL tweet) and shown at the wheel of a MMC double decker which I suspect is his usual steed.

What a lovely story. London could do with some more characters like this.

Is the 812 a commercial venture? My understanding is that it is partly funded by Islington Council, and partly subsidised by CT Plus - the operator has a policy of using profits from the commercial side of the business to finance socially necessary services such as the 812.

More about the 812 - although it doesn't fully answer your question about how it is funded (my understanding is the same as yours). ctplus.org/route_812_3Oyster, contactless and travecards are not accepted, but Freedom passes are (I'm not sure about 60+ Oyster). Otherwise the cash fare is £1 per journey, children under 16 free.

See the N551 mentioned elsewhere here about how early this starts 11.10pm (Fri / Sat). Does anyone know the reason it starts so early? it duplicates the DLR between Beckton and Docklands and also other local bus routes throughout Beckton, Canning Town and then the other routes into the city.
