210 - Extended to Euston via A503, A400 then A4200 Leaving aside the madness of giving the 210 such a long extension, how are you proposing to get to the A503 without passing under the low bridge on Stroud Green Road? Re-convert to RF operation?

Would it be worth merging the 178 and 291 together? That shouldn't be too hard operationally, right? The new route could be based at MG and both batches of buses are of the same type.

I like your idea in that it would create lots of useful new links and yes on paper it does make sense to merge the two routes.
The problem is that the 291 only terminates at one end - Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The drivers just wait at Garland Road Clinic for a little while, in service, before doing a loop of the Woodlands Estate and heading back to QEH. I believe the 291's schedule treats it as a circular route seeing as it doesn't really terminate at the Woodlands Estate

The 291 has run between Woodlands Estate and Lewisham before, except instead of service QEH it served Shooters Hill via Eglinton Hill and Plumstead Common Road then turned left ito Kidbrooke Park Road to cover Kidbrooke and Lee. The routing for the 291 from Woolwich has also changed and I can't see both being combined, especially as there is a plan with crossrail for the 178 to return to Thamesmead, unless that has now been shelved?

40 - reroute at the Elephant via London Bridge and Tooley Street to terminate at City Hall
45 ‐ extend beyond the Elephant to Clerkenwell Green
343 ‐ reroute at London Bridge via Monument and Fenchurch Street to Aldgate

Does HCC not allow night buses? I know they wouldn’t have funded it and TfL likely wouldn’t have funded one either. I see a case for each of these routes to be extended. N16 and N113 because they are more direct from Central London. N5 is more indirect but as it serves Euston, that would be more useful for those that have missed the last train from there

Hertfordshire doesn't have a ban on night bus routes - TfL decides what TfL routes run where not a county.. The likely reason why they don't exist on the edges of London is probably because a combination of most people having money to take cabs, a successful mini cab network and a more local night scene avoiding the need to travel into Central London.

N279 operates into Hertfordshire. N18 did at one time run through to Watford Junction. I expect it was uneconomic to run which is why it was discontinued. Nothing to stop a commercial operator going for it if they think the demand is there.

It was by London Central or General (forgot which one) that started all the way in Kent I believe (Gillingham or Gravesend?) which also changed numbers along the way? I think one section was numbered N60 and another N82?
