Close on the heels of Go-Ahead's purchase of Firsts's Northumberland Park Depot and Transport for London contracts, it can now be revealed that First's Dagenham operations have been sold, this time to CT Plus, London's only Community Interest Company (CIC) currently operating Transport for London services.
The sale was revealed at a press conference in the early hours of this morning. Said Pilar Lofo, the charismatic Spanish former spokeswoman for Transport for London who is now part of the CT Plus Senior Management team:
"We have been looking for opportunities to expand our operations in London, and the purchase of Firsts's Dagenham operations will fit well with our existing activities in East London. As a Community Interest Company, profits from our commercial activity will be invested into additional services to meet social needs that are not met by mainstream transport services. We look forward to working with the people of the area to identify and meet those needs."
When asked if she herself would be interested in the challenge of running CT Plus' newly-acquired Dagenham operations, Ms Lofo replied, "Good Heavens no, I've been promised a post in the Channel Islands!"
Firsts's Norwegian spokesman, Olaf Porli, said "We thought we'd never get shot, er, I mean we are delighted that we have found a buyer of the calibre of CT Plus for our Dagenham operations. First has been looking at its business profile in recent months, and the sale of our east London businesses will enable us to concentrate on and strengthen our considerable presence in West London."
The deal will involve First's Dagenham Depot and all its vehicles and Transport for London contracts. Staff will also be transferred to CT Plus, under TUPE regulations. The deal will be formally signed at 12 noon today; until then, to mark the occasion, free travel is being offered to any passenger who boards a bus operated by First's Dagenham Depot and says to the driver: 'This bus is operated by CT Plus'.
