Hi all, The first of the S7 stock trains entered service on the Hammersmith & City line on Friday, shuttling between Hammersmith and Moorgate ( the rest of the line is still being tested with the new trains) It is hoped that several new trains will be in service on the H&C by the Olympics. The times of this run are (source District Dave's forum) From 06/07/2012 Mon-Fri 1007 HMS -MGT 1040 1055 MGT - HMS 1127 1128 HMS - MGT 1202 1210 MGT -HMS 1241 1428 HMS -MGT 1502 1510 MGT -HMS 1541 Saturdays 0858 HMS-MGT 0940 MGT-HMS 1012 HMS-MGT 1055 MGT-HMS Meanwhile, on the Metropolitan Line, almost all of the A60/A62 stock have been replaced, with four examples expected to remain until final withdrawal after the Olympics. I think that the order of the takeover of the sub-surface lines by S stock will go in order, by the Hammersmith & City Line, then Circle Line then District Line; So that should mean that the District line will be the last place to see C69/C77 and D78 stock in service

I would hate the D78 Stock to be withdrawn they are the second best prior the A Stock.

Finally! New stock for the H&C I wonder how many 'several' trains actually are? That explains the S7 train I saw stabled at Platform 4 in Moorgate this morning - I just assumed it was a Metropolitan line one

My favorite is the 1992 stock on the Central Line, followed by the now departed 1967 stock on the Victoria Line. The new Victoria Line trains are not a patch on them.

I went on 21305 on Friday (Baker Street - Moorgate - Edgware Road) and for me it made D Stock seem poor compared to it, let alone C Stock . More spacious, brighter interior, quieter and more smooth compared to both C and D Stock.

the D stock seems a bit of a waste to withdraw considering it was recently refurbished. But standardisation is better.
Perhaps riding the S7/S8 will change that.

I thought I had read that the S7 trains to replace D stock had been delayed from 2013 to 2015 onwards because of the cost and recent refurb of D stock. As you say would be a waste to replace them so soon after refurb. The D stock was built 1980-1983 so is younger than the Bakerloo or Piccadilly line fleets (built 1972-77), which aren't yet getting replacements.

There was a plan to use the D stock on the Leeds - Harrogate line in Yorkshire upon replacement by the S stock. Whether this happens though is another story. Wasn't the tender to replace the 72's/73's posponed? So there could be the possibilities that they'll reach their 50th's ;D To me, the 73's definately don't look & feel 38/39 yrs old. I would imagine that it'll be one of these stocks that'll eventually replace the veteran 38ts on the IOW.

The S8s are very slow to accelerate. I wonder if the S7s will be faster?

I remember seeing somewhere that the S8 are currently limited, to the acceleration levels of A Stock, otherwise there would be a lot of bunching. I think the S7 are currently faster - certainly seemed that way when I went on one on Friday. But maybe they are limited to match C Stock?

I think S8 are either limited to the speed of A stock or the Drivers are instructed to drive at the same speed as the As. S7 are much better than C stock. Faster to Accelerate, speed is faster. I wouldnt want to be on a Full S7 and then transfer over to a C stock. Then it would become true Sardine can style ;D I will miss the D stock and C stock a bit but most of all, ill miss the A stock . D stock are gonna start to be replaced by 2013 and there will be 3 S7s in service before the Olympics Start. Probably once all C stock on the Circle, H&C and the Wimbledon - Edgware road section are gone and replaced by S7s, S7s will probably start coming in Order is Hammersmith And City, Then Circle and finally Wimbledon - Edgware road

I've rode both S7 and C Stock and IMO, C Stock is better, even though they are in bits and they only got refurbished in 1993/94. Why? Well, the C Stock is better cause of the oldness if has with the C77 Stock you get that smokey door alarm sound. Also you hear the screams of it when it accelerates faster and faster. Farringdon - Kings Cross is the best place to get a C Stock for some fast speed action. IMO, I think the S Stock is a bit boring nothing really to indulge you with. But others may disagree.

I agree with the S7 having no character but they are fast and hold more people. The sound of a C stock is the best. Doors, Motors ect. but A stock is the best for Sounds

I observed one of the S7's that operate on the H&C -(HMS & MGT only) stabled in plt4 this afternoon approx. 15:45, not showing train number '700' that it has been since entering service but '261'. According to the timetable provided the train should of already been at HMS providing it ran in scheduled service.
