The complexity, understanding and responsibility needed of the various systems on board a tube train is one of the reasons tube operators are paid more than bus drivers.

...too complex for the driver here it would seem as he did get confused/flustered and the report mentions did not fully understand the door sensor override....and lacked the necessary competence to respond correctly when under pressure....
(it does further mention the medication he was on may in rare cases have affected his concentration)

The one fatal mistake he made was overriding the traction interlock and continuing with passengers on board. Any other driver would have simply detrained the passengers and taken the train out of service. Where time is a factor and the fault cannot be quickly / accurately diagnosed, detrain and proceed out of service.
