I've heard a few people say things like that, cans and bottles rolling round the bus etc. Yes and what’s your point? No amount of fancy interiors will stop this. Been on plenty of trains too with bottles rolling about so not just buses! Greater Anglia Trains can be pretty messy at weekends! I still say what I said earlier buses are much cleaner now than a few years ago unless you catch a bus that’s had a very intense day. Rolling cans are just the worst. It really isn't hard to take your d*mned litter with you and chuck it in the bin. Did a lot of buses recently and there were rolling bottles on almost half of them!!! Other than that I don't find buses to dirty. I know people are saying they'd rather take the car but I don't want to deal with the cost and madness of driving in London myself. I do tend to take the tube/Overground as I'm too busy to be taking buses, but I did quite a lot of buses when I spent a lot of one weekend in the Croydon area (didn't feel like doing the Overground to West Croydon and I avoid National Rail wherever possible). Got a nice old T on the 250, 154/157, 119 and really enjoyed the 468, great route.

Bus interiors are cleaner than they were pre pandemic, not perfect but better than before. But that is in part to no way near the same amount of passengers on some routes. More passengers doesn’t necessarily mean more rubbish, it all depends on the type of passenger who boards

Rolling bottles really annoy me. Not only is the sound annoying but if that bottle breaks then the bus goes out of service - no ifs or buts. I remember once leaving Bromley South and after a short period hearing a bottle rolling around. I kept an eye out for a bin and when I saw one (remarkably few and far between!) I stopped the bus and removed the bottle. One passenger asked what I was doing and I explained that if the bottle was to break then I’d have to take the bus out of service immediately which isn’t ideal on a 30 minute service. He rather angrily replied ‘well don’t look at me!’ which made me think a) I wasn’t blaming anyone and b) now I know exactly who dropped the bottle! As you say, taking litter with you should be a given - you wouldn’t leave it lying around at home so what’s the issue taking it with you on the bus? I sometimes challenge people who I’ve seen get on with chicken boxes or McDonalds wrappers when they get off empty handed. The number of people who sheepishly return to get their litter is surprisingly high!

Which garage do you work at, because I remember a few months ago getting on a 132 chicken box in hand and warned by the driver to not make a mess when eating and take my rubbish with me 🤣 I wonder why they couldn’t repurpose the old ticket bins that were common until 2019 as a bin for small things like wrappers and drinks. Would’ve made sense

I cannot remember if the cleaner was infected with anything, but in the end they were to be removed from TA's and SLD's

Would’ve made sense Disgusting. Why on earth do people eat on the bus? Especially smelly “chicken boxes” or other fast food. Your hands will be filthy to start with and then the rest of the bus has the pleasure of smelling filthy junk food. Eating should be banned on buses imo. Maybe I’m getting old

Maybe I’m getting old Hot, smelly takeaways, absolutely. No reason to be eating those on the bus. Water/mints/any food that doesn’t smell or leave detritus behind seems ok to consume on the bus though.

I can understand a ban on hot food, but I feel like small things like sandwiches and drinks would be a bit overboard IMO.

Most people eating “chicken boxes” I’ve seen tend to use their hands and then they are shiny like a new babies forehead with grease. Maybe you’re in the minority. Full bus or no full bus it doesn’t make a difference - what about the driver having to smell the disgusting stench of greasy food.

So you’re expecting a driver to pull over a full bus, demand a passenger get off, call a code to NMCC and potentially get the police out over food? No sane driver would enforce this in the same way no sane underground gate staff enforce the ban on alcohol.

Maybe I’m getting old Washington DC has had a food and drink ban on its Metro since it opened, and the trains have the same amount of rubbish and food/drink cartons left around, reality is people just ignore it as there are no guards or personnel directly enforcing it

In all fairness, most chicken shops do give out serviettes with the food - some even go one better and put one of those wipes in
