Lucky you went down the stairs !! I did see that trident on the 3 the last Friday and wondered why they had put a trident on it as double deckers are surely not justified for the usage of the route and was thinking of the extra diesel that must use compared to a dart ,the driver probably just forgot about the low bridge very dangerous though hope no one was hurt saying that though I have seen a First Olympian go under that bridge .

You were d*mn lucky to walk away unscathed.
Without casting any judgements, is the first photo the same driver, and how long prior to the incident? The 'before' photo you posted (unless a strategically positioned reflection) appears to show the driver wearing an earpiece in his right ear from that photo.

Good grief. He must have going some speed to slice the entire roof off like that. I know the roofs are not massively strong but even so. Glad you are OK. Well that's one bus driver who's lost his job instantly!

Yes it was the same driver, He left Southend at 3PMish and hit the bridge in Chelmsford about 4:30PM Lucky you went down the stairs !! You can just about get a olly under that bridge if you driver through the middle Good grief. He must have going some speed to slice the entire roof off like that. He was doing about 10-15 but just kept going after we hit it as if nothing had happened

not to mention the action the police will take against him. Incidents such as this are treated very seriously and he will most probably face prosecution for driving without due care and attention....
Could end up with a minimum of 6 points, a lengthy Ban (or both), large fine and in the worst case the loss of his PCV entitlement.... As far as I know DWDCAA does not carry a custodial sentence.

Only going on what I have heard from people, The driver walked off not long after, I don't know what happened as I was too busy being asked questions by the police, He did leave 30 late and was trying to make up time, Driving a bit too fast if you ask me, We were almost in a head on with a van at one point

I just had a look through some motoring law papers I have, and the offence he is likely to be charged with is Offence CD10 - Driving without due care and attention which carries a licence endorsement of between 3 and 9 points (6-9 only if convicted in court) and a fine of up to £5000. The serious case that it is he could face a period of disqualification.
If he'd have stopped short, not hitting the bridge and and turned round, he would have got away scot free, or at the most if a police officer attended he could have been done for The Offence of 'Breach of requirements as to Control of a vehicle' which is the offence that is used when caught on a phone whilst driving. Which is also endorsable (3 points)

Abit of super glue and polish and it should be fixed!!
Joking aside, whenever there is a low bridge along the road there are loads of big bright signs saying its height and that it's a low bridge. The operating company shouldn't have put a decker out on a route that has a low bridge, even if they have a different routing to avoid a low bridge.
A bus company my dad use to drive for had quite a few low bridge incidents mainly on railway replacement jobs and the bloke who owned the company use to try and blame Network Rail for not telling him about the low bridges near the stations!.

Perhaps the driver will need the phone number of Chris Huhne's Lawyer So that's what disrupted the trains yesterday - that's Greater Anglia's main line he crashed into - I was fixing something at Seven Kings and heard about the delays to the service. When you say 'the driver walked off long later', he didn't disappear from the scene, did he You'd think a Chelmsford operator would know the local streets in Chelmsford to avoid, wouldn't you? Plus the Overall Height is clearly displayed in the cab. You had a lucky escape mate - puts my carbon monoxide poisoning by DLA231's broke exhaust into perspective He must have been going some when he hit the bridge

There are routes in London (ie 197) that go right up to a low bridge before turning.

There are routes in London (ie 197) that go right up to a low bridge before turning. Similarly with the 196 which approaches the same bridge from the opposite direction, though not quite as close.

Glad you came out in one piece and unharmed DN33501. Where you the only one upstairs prior to coming down?
The driver is so lucky he didn't kill anyone, though I use the word 'lucky' loosely seeing as he was unlucky in causing the problem in the first place.
