Just to comment on a subject brought up here a few pages back - confusion between Nxx routes and xx routes, where the N route is a seperate route in its own right.
Of course, one solution to this (not the one adopted though) would be a rough allocation of route numbers according to prestige/strategic necessity, similar to years gone by, where the lowest numbers were cross london and trunk radials, whereas the higher numbers went increasingly towards the periphery, and then by number of decks before the practice of renumbering 2xx routes that went DD stopped.

Are you not confusing the 130 express routes with the C1-5? If you look back historically, the 'C' group were once numbered in the 130's There was the 130 130A 130B 130C(express) The 130 C was wirhdrawn and replaced with C1-C4 the C5 was the local bus running on the Addington estate These were the johnson box services flat fare no change given

Route 12A was split into two routes. 312 Peckham to South Croydon Garage, 412 West Croydon Bus Station to Purley Old Lodge Lane. The Sunday only 12B Peckham to Chipstead Valley I think is now covered by Route 166 from Croydon? The Croydon-Chipstead Valley section is still covered by the 166 but now goes right up to Banstead via Woodmansterne and certain journeys go to Epsom General Hospital. Did the 12B &, later on, the 166, stand outside in the pub car park in Chipstead Valley?

The 130C was the epress service. There was also a 194A B and C Did the 130C become the X30? Yes but not straight away. The 130C was replaced by the C1-C4 express routes, there was also a local C5 in New Addington. The X30 then replaced the C3 and C4 (the C1 and C2 had been withdrawn by then) in September 1982.

Yes, I seem to recall the 166 going all the way to Beckenham via village way which is now covered by the 367. As a youngster, I remember some of the prefix routes like the 171A and the 22A/B. The 171 and 171A were completely different routes? Same with the 22 and 22A/B Yes the 166 did once go to Beckenham Junction but only Monday to Friday, on Saturday it terminated at Shirley Monks Orchard Road and on Sundays there was a 166A from Chipstead Valley to Thornton Heath Garage.

Going back to the P area routes, there was also the P14 which became the 395.
All of the P routes join up with another P route along part of the route.
Route P4 runs alongside the P12 in Honor Oak Park, P13 alongside the P12 in Peckham and P4 in Dulwich and the P4 and P5 in Brixton.
Route 484 I think is a combination of the old L1 (Lewisham) and the original 184.

Weren't all the N prefixes on the night routes going to be done away with and there were just going to be 24hr routes?

Used to be the 38 & 38A followed the same route from Victoria to Leyton(Bakers Arms)then the 38 went to Chingford & the 38A to Loughton.38A was withdrawn when the Victoria Line opened & the 20 was extended from Leytonstone to Walthamstow Central.

Weren't all the N prefixes on the night routes going to be done away with and there were just going to be 24hr routes? I hope not as there are quite a good set of night links, the N44 and N87 being two examples and are well used.
