All very interesting. I remember reading that all the deep level lines are linked to the Piccadilly line , so the other lines trains can reach Northfields depot. There is a line between there and Acton town used that used to be used for testing purposes.

There is a line between there and Acton town used that used to be used for testing purposes. Err whoever wrote about the links to the Picc Line doesn't know their Underground very well. There are *no* tunnelled links between the Picc Line and the Central / Bakerloo / Jubilee / Waterloo and City Lines. The Bakerloo is only linked to the Jubilee at Baker St and National Rail at Queens Park. The W&C has no links other than a crane to the outside world. The Central only connects to the outside world at Ealing Broadway (and I'm not 100% certain that connection is still there) and via Ruislip Depot to the Met Line. There is a link to National Rail at West Ruislip. The Picc Line connects to the Victoria, Northern and Met / District Lines. There is a test track at South Ealing but it can involve very roundabout routes to get there. All stocks have to undergo special braking tests every few years at the test track. One challenge is going to be how they test the 09 stock as it was all delivered by road and it has never run on any other tube route. There's certainly no guarantee that it could run via the Picc Line using the Finsbury Park crossover.

As a District T/Op I can confirm that the cross line exchange siding at Ealing Broadway is no longer in existence this was removed because of the different signalling systems used on Central and District

The Victoria Line 09 stock was built to a wider width than standard deep level stock in order to take advantage of the wider tunnels the Victoria line was built with. This creates more room inside the train but also means they are out of gauge on the other deep level lines (the only connection to the Victoria is via crossovers at Finsbury Park) and are thus marooned on their own line.
This is also the reason why they were delivered one coach at a time by road lorry. This contrasts with the S stock which is being delivered one train at a time direct from Derby to Neasden depot by rail as they are to the standard width.

In the original plans for the Walthamstow end of the Victoria Line, the station was going to be on the other side of the main line station on the site of the old coal yard/power station.
