I think the original spec 2nd gen E400s (up to 60 reg?) have a switch under the pedal. T110 at Norwood has a working kickdown up to 2000rpm. I think there is a couple more N ones that has that too as I've had about three late 133 journeys where kickdown was used but wasn't used much in those journeys which was a shame.

Are any of the single deckers at LU Limited? (DE,DLE,DPS,MCL,OT,SDE) The DE/DLEs are poor. The acceleration is seriously goverened down. Some of them have kickdown in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. However, because of the impediment on acceleration, the torque break doesn't come until mid 3rd so there isn't any kickdown until they reach around 30mph. They're all limited to 39mph and from what I've garnered from the service drivers, there are no rogues that have escaped restriction. I drove an SDE in 2013 and it was very much the same. I haven't driven any MCLs or OTs. Most are reported to be restricted to somewhere in the 40mph region, although I do not think the acceleration is limited. There are reports of some which can do at least 56mph. Hopefully I'll get a chance to try one one day, especially the OT which I think is the coolest sounding engine around. I think the DPS' can all do 56mph. The 60 plate ADHs seem to be unrestricted. I drove a Voith TLA too - I was surprised to find it had a tacho and could do 56mph. However, like the TAs 341-346, it upshifted at 1700rpm max but had a working downshift.

They seem to behave like modern coaches when listening to them changing gear.
