Another thing I can't stand Euro 3 darts with the cooling fan going, horrible vile things Euro 2 Cadets are the worst. I loathe the sound of the ones on route 255. My favourite Cadets are the 255's - they make a much smoother sound compared to non Cummins ISBE Euro II Darts.

Diesel for me simply because the sounds they make - you just don't get that same collection of noises on a hybrid. Forgot to add, the louder a diesel bus, the better for me. Does the include the fan noise from the Volvos

I used to live on Green lanes, I had VLW's and VNL's roaring away, DLA and DLP squeaky brakes, it never bothered me once, what is annoying when I stay there now is the sound of a HV taking off in diesel mode, I don't know what it is but it's very distinctive about that sound Are you crazy dude? lol. You would rather roaring B7TLs and DLAs with those awful brakes than a HV pulling away in diesel mode? I for one couldn't/can't stand any of the former sounds. I hate that B7TL roaring. When I lived at my mums when a 242/53/4 was at Hackney downs/amhurst road/dalston lane which is 0.2miles away you could always hear it especially from my bedroom or the balcony. When a 253/4 was running light up pembury road, especially early hours of the morning - oh man, who needed a alarm. Same thing with the 120 when it had them (although mine is slightly different as I live in a side road and slightly higher than most buildings in the immediate area, plus a conveniently placed gap between houses after which the road curves to roughly the same line as the gap between houses this is only a problem in one direction, the other is blocked by houses ).
At uni I'm right by what is actually part of the North Circular, and I find trucks to be the most annoying (buses that pass are WVL/SO/PVL mainly and I don't mind that sound, however in one direction the bus turns off into a different direction at the roundabout while the other direction there is a sharp bend nearby so the noise disappears sharpish )
VPL630 I can't stand the Euro 3 Dart with fan on either

Another thing I can't stand Euro 3 darts with the cooling fan going, horrible vile things Whereas I love the noise of their cooling fan whirring away especially when being thrashed. Between my house and the road that these horrible things pass down there is quite a big wood, I can still hear them passing I just find it annoying

I'm not going to vote because I think it depends on the individual bus.
I find a B7TL in good condition with ZF gearing is nice and smooth, still comparable to current models. Conversely, I find the newer hybrid Volvo's a bit too jerky, even when they pull away in hybrid mode, the gear changing is very noticeable and they are quite loud (nice buses nonetheless)
The LT's are nice when running correctly, but when they run straight off the engine the performance is horrendous. The hybrid enviros are probably the best of them, they take off like a rocket, effortlessly.

I am just glad where I am now there is no B7TLs although if I go on the balcony, if there is a ill sounding TE on the 91 or TE1098 on the 210 I can hear them.

The hybrid enviros are probably the best of them, they take off like a rocket, effortlessly. The reasons the Volvo's are jerky and the gear changing is very noticeable is because they basically have a manual gearbox which is controlled by a computer, it also does not go 1,2,3,4,5,6 they skip gears so would go something like this 3,6,9,11,12, but I full agree with your post ZF B7TL's are the best when well maintained

Which would be cheaper to order nowadays, hybrid double deckers or fully diesel variants with the hybrid flywheel? I imagine the difference in fuel savings are alot less now, but with the hybrid still benefiting that bit more... and still better in value in the long run.
