Three ideas for a bit of tweaking in the Gidea Park area, creating links that sadly are non existent at present. 1. To create link between Gidea Pk station area/ Drill roundabout area etc and Roneo Corner Tesco. Divert 193 at Brentwood Rd /Park Lane , along Park Lane to Roneo Corner, then as 248/252 to Romford to resume routeing. 2. To create link between Main Rd/ Raphael Park area and Gidea Park station. Divert 498 along Balgores Lane to GP station, giving service to busless part of Balgores Lane, then as 496 via Upper Brentwood Rd to Gallows Corner. 3. Creating link between Slewins Lane and GP station, which doesn't exist, aggravatingly I'm sure for residents. Divert either 370 or 165 at Drill roundabout along Balgores Lane, Station Rd, Brentwood Rd back to Drill roundabout to continue route. All minor alterations, but useful ones I think.

Got an idea of a few improvements that could be feasible:
1. Routes 162, 314 & 353 (plus new 351)
- Withdraw 162 between Bromley South and Beckenham Junction - Divert 314 from Bromley South to Beckenham Junction via current 162 - Create a new route 351 between Bromley North and Forestdale, via route 314 to Addington Village then route 353 to Forestdale (assuming the only toilet facilities needed for this route are at the Bromley end, I don't know the rules on that, otherwise run to New Addington and leave the 353). - Divert route 353 from Addington Village to New Addington via current 314 with a frequency increase to every 15 mins and a single-deck conversion if required on that section.
These are to improve reliability and efficiency - I frequently see late running and turns on the 162 & 314 so shortening them should help this out. This should also remove the need for the 353 to stand en-route at Addington Village to provide toilet facilities for drivers.
2. Routes 119, N119, X119 & 126
Option 1 - Divert route 119 from West Wickham, High Street to Bromley South via Station Road, Red Lodge Road (through current width restriction, which I would remove for buses only), Barnfield Wood Road & Westmoreland Road. This would speed up the bus journey between Bromley and Croydon. - Replace the section via Hayes with an extended route 126 which is converted to double deckers and reduced to every 12 minutes daytimes. The 126 would terminate at West Wickham or Shirley (Monks Orchard) depending on stand space. - Leave the night 119 service as is renumbered N119.
Option 2 - Leave the 119 as is. - Create a new express route X119 from West Croydon to Bromley North which follows the 119 from East Croydon to West Wickham then goes to Bromley via the 119 revision above. Run every 15 mins or so with 12m single deckers.

Run every 15 mins or so with 12m single deckers. i like your ideas. I could never understand why buses on the 119, or another route, could not go via Barnfield Wood Road, both to speed up the journey between Bromley and West Wickham and to avoid Corkscrew Hill, always a nightmare in icy weather. Then, when leaving school, I went to work for London Borough of Bromley and, a little later, London Transport at 55 Broadway and I came to realise that, just because an idea seemed logical, didn't mean it might be opposed by those of a conservative (and maybe Conservative too) nature. The opposition of Barnfield Wood Road residents to double deck buses passing their houses might be expected, but their total opposition to any buses lowering the value of their properties perhaps less so. The original Croydon area flat fare route proposals, in addition to the New Addington ones which were adopted, also included a surprising number based on the corridor between Shirley, West Wickham, Beckenham and Forest Hill, to be worked by single deckers. Even so, Barnfield Wood Road and a link to the 126 and 138 routes already converted to omo, graduated fare operation, was nowhere to be seen. It might also be mentioned that in those days there were peak shorts between Bromley and Hayes Station on the 119, but in my experience they were generally under-used. If you want details, including the proposed route numbers, of the never-introduced routes, I can provide them. Separate to that, there was an 'express' route of sorts between Bromley and Croydon 40-50 years ago, provided by Green Line coaches, first on the 725, then later added to by the 726. Although primarily intended for longer distance passengers, there were sufficient medium distance punters willing to pay the premium during peaks to justify a 10 minute frequency between Dartford and Croydon for a short part of each peak hour, reflecting the difficulty of reaching Croydon by any reasonably fast public transport from Bromley and points east. These went under the low bridge at Shortlands of course, thus ensuring single deck operation: double deckers could have saved a couple of those peak extras. I heard (but have never seen in print, so can't be certain of veracity) that when London Country were thinking of the 726 variation to Heathrow there was also a thought that either the 725 or the 726 (i.e. half the service) would be diverted at Bromley Market Square via Bromley South Station and your proposed X119 routeing to Croydon, but with double deckers, so that obviously came to nothing. LT (i.e. red buses) would probably not have taken that lying down, either.

These seem too sensible to be located in this thread 1) I agree with diverting the 353 to New Addington but I'd divert the 464 to Forestdale in it's place and cut the 314 to Addington Village instead. Granted, this doesn't solve the toilet issue but it should improve reliability for the 314 - only issue is making sure an extended 464 doesn't cause problems with other 464's on Salt Box Hill. With the 162, I can't comment too much on the 162 but I believe the terminus at Beckenham Junction would cause issues for the 314's longer buses. 2) I'd pick Option 2 and leave the 119 as it currently is but introduce the X119 via your 119 revision. I'd also divert it in Croydon to Purley via High Street, Croydon Flyover & Purley Way to create a fast Croydon to Purley link as well as relieving the 289 in the process.

Rerouting the 314 would remove the Bromley to New Addington link. The simple solution to the toilet issue would be to curtail the 353 at Addington Village, it carries little more than fresh air to and from Forestdale anyway, and double run the 433 via Courtwood Lane giving a direct link to Selsdon and Croydon. If it's possible to run a bus service via Barnfield Wood Road it would be a good route for the eastern end of the old 726 if were ever reinstated between Croydon and Dartford/Bluewater. TfL wouldn't want it going via its previous route as it would compete with Tramlink.
