I can't understand why there is no bus direct from Tottenham to Hackney so many people change at Stamford Hill onto 253/254. One idea is to extend 349 to Homerton Hospital but there's little space available there so maybe Clapton Garage would be better. Or maybe this: North Middlesex Hospital Angel Corner Tottenham Seven Sisters Stamford Hill Clapton Pond Vlapton Bus Garage ( Hackney Central). From SF or AR I always wondered about this too, but I guess it would over-bus that part of Clapton and Hackney. The 349 terminates right near to where you can pick up either a 253 or 254 into Hackney

Tottenham to Edmonton is well covered by 259 279 and 349 so maybe 349 Tottenham Bruce Grove the old 171 terminus

There are stations in Tottenham at Seven Sisters, Bruce Grove, White Hart Lane, Silver Street and then at Edmonton Green. Going south there are stations in Hackney at Stamford hill, Stoke Newington, Rectory Road, Hackney Downs and London Fields.

There is however a rail link During the 1970s when AR worked the 106 there were always ''when working'' garage journeys from Tottenham down to Stoke Newington and on to Blackwall Tunnel, or wherever. Obviously these were fairly random e.g. from AR in early morning and to AR at end of evening peak and late night, but I do recall seeing a few midday such journeys in each direction. The 236, when allocated to AR, only ever seems to have operated in service from AR to Finsbury Park and vice versa, so a direct Hackney journey would have been time-consuming, perhaps only for the enthusiast.

Btw 're 106 from AR I can remember 253 working from EM I know the latter happened, but being a South Londoner I don't recall them! On a more general point, the lack of a direct Tottenham to Hackney link postwar until about 1960 would have been down to the trolleybus operating dept, and the tram operating dept before that. Tottenham and Stoke Newington had West End access via the 73 and City of London access via the 76, as both places would not allow overhead wiring, let alone tram tracks. The dept guarded their territory jealously, and many there hated diesel buses I have read, having more of an affinity with the Underground operators. Any attempt by the bus people to 'muscle in' would have gone to board level, and almost certainly have been repulsed.

129: extended eastbound to Woolwich from NG, replacing the 161 which would be cut back to Woolwich, and the 129 would also be extended westbound to Camberwell.

I have several new ideas, with the extension of the 129 and the proposed changes in Greenwich here’s what I would do To routes 129, 180, 177 & 286
129: Extend it beyond Lewisham to Sydenham, this will aide the overcrowded 75, the most direct route between Lewisham & Sydenham as the 122 is slightly more circuitous, this would link Sydenham with the Docklands, I think this would more direct and quicker than a hypothetical 202 extension.
180: Be kept as it is
177: Rerouted at Greenwich to Waterloo via Creek Road, Deptford, Surrey Quays, Canada Water, Elephant & Castle then Waterloo
286: Extended to Peckham via the 177, Double Decked.
