My friends and my dad jaywalk often. I tell them not to every time I see them do it. My friends usually take it in but my dad just gets angry. Seriously, he doesn't understand the word 'safe'. He drives without a seatbelt. He'll happily drive with 6 people in a 5-seater car like it's nothing. I've refused to travel at times because it's unsafe.I do cross in the middle of the road sometimes but only when there's no cars and I only do it on quite, side roads. I never cross in the middle of a main road. Also, I always wait for the green man at crossings regardless of whether there's any cars coming or not. Sometimes I look like a bit of an idiot when everyone else is crossing but I don't compromise on safety.
Not that it always helps though. Once when waiting at the crossing I noticed the lights change red and the oncoming 25 slowing down. I decided to wait for the green man anyway. When it came on I started crossing. Unfortunately, one cyclist decided the lights didn't apply to him and that the bus was blocking him, so went round the bus (the nearside of the bus). Well, as soon as I passed the bus the cyclist smashed into me. He was going kind of fast and I got bruised on my arm and got cut on my arms and hands. It wasn't so bad but still kind of a scary experience.
Hope the driver and victim are OK, hope both of them get well soon.
How fast would the bus have had to be travelling so that the windscreen cracked?
And as a bonus I love travelling by bus (duh!).
