Piccadilly Line seemed to start having problems from 3am Now it's severe delays whole line Why wasn't this flag ship line , taking first time tourists from the airport, upgraded long ago ? There is a funnier version on the TfL website (grammatically funny, obviously not funny if stranded) Says " severe delays accepted on local buses " No explanation, it's a 24 hour service, with 24 hour info updates (not)

Piccadilly Line seemed to start having problems from 3am Now it's severe delays whole line Why wasn't this flag ship line , taking first time tourists from the airport, upgraded long ago ? unfortunately there is always a queue of line upgrades and the Picc has never quite made it to the top of the queue. There has actually been a lot of work done on the Picc Line upgrade (I sat next to the team for several years) but woes with the PPP and then budget overruns on the sub surface project have meant the money was never quite there to get the Picc going at full speed. Remember the Jubilee Line upgrade was a complete nightmare although a lot of lessons were learnt which meant the Northern Line upgrade was vastly smoother. There has also been the huge (and it really is a huge issue) of how do you sort out the interworked sections (Acton Town - Ealing Common, South Harrow - Uxbridge) with two different signalling technologies. The work that was done on this in the past was mind boggling. I suspect that further changes to the operational philosophy (fully auto trains, possibly unstaffed) have raised a further set of issues around the platform / train interface and how you put doors / half height barriers on platforms which are old and some are kn*ckered (falling down structurally). I also suspect politics has had an influence on the operational philosophy (Boris wanted unstaffed trains / Sadiq won't want to upset the unions) which, of course, changes the specification, costs and benefits. I also fear that the cuts to investment spend because of the fares freeze (and yes there are plenty of cuts) is also causing issues. Unless an order for trains is made very soon I suspect we are going to see real problems with the rolling stock on the Picc within 18 months. And as to when approval will be sought for the track, power, drainage, platform edge doors, signalling, tunnel ventilation etc etc works is anyone's guess. Upgrading the Picc is an enormous job and will almost certainly mean the traditional service pattern of the Picc, District and Met lines will change.

A Wimbledon branch District Line going to Upminster. Most northbound Wimbledon branch trains go to Edgware Road or Tower Hill or Barking.

I've not been on the Wimbledon branch District line for quite a while[1] but I've always remembered many trains departing Wimbledon through to Upminster when the D stock was still in abundance. Has the service changed that much over recent years? [1] - have yet to travel on an S stock

Has the service changed that much over recent years? [1] - despite travelling through town on a regular basis Peak trains do the full route from Upminster to Wimbledon, but off peak most if not all Wimbledon trains do not go any further than Barking with some turning around at Tower Hill. This became the case a few years ago, before Ealing Broadway District Line trains would not do the full route and only go as far as Tower Hill but with the Hammersmith at Barking now always going into the sidings to terminate the bay platform became available for District Line services to use.

I've not been on the Wimbledon branch District line for quite a while[1] but I've always remembered many trains departing Wimbledon through to Upminster when the D stock was still in abundance. Has the service changed that much over recent years? [1] - have yet to travel on an S stock A quick look at the DL working timetable shows the off peak departure pattern from Wimbledon to be Edg Rd, Barking, Edg Rd, Tower Hill, Edg Rd etc etc . In the peaks there are Upminster - Wimbledon workings so I guess it depends on when you use Wimbledon as to what destinations are evident. How different that pattern is to times past I can't really say as I'm no LU timetable expert. There have always been variable service patterns across the day on sub surface. With a common fleet of trains there are now slightly more quirky odd journeys like Upminster to Hammersmith or Edgware Road via Vic to Barking. These tend to be at the shoulders of the peak or early / late as positioning workings or to get trains to / from depots. While I have used the S stock a few times my brain has still not adjusted to them being the sole type of train on the sub surface. I keep expecting a C or D stock to appear. This is just down to how little I use the tube. If I used it every day I'm sure my brain would have "tuned in" by now.

On Thursday I've been on a Metropolitan line train whose destination said: Not in service Not in serviceThe sides said: Not in service, and the inside it said… Guess what Not in service! Yet the train was very much in service, though I must say I reluctantly got on it

If you want a real laugh and haven't already seen it read Diamond Geezer's recent blog entries about the train departure boards at Bow Road.

How does one know whether a rail replacement service is running, or not, on the Olympia branch ? It appears to be running today

Per TfL journey alerts, Piccadilly line has severe delays and suggests South West Trains to Hounslow
Just the thing for those still waiting for a District Railway train to Hounslow, having not noticed a change of company

A mobile phone charger caught fire on a train at Tower Hill. Did they plug it into the train? I'm guessing it must have been a portable charger.
