I always thought diesel engines were supposed to be less polluting than petrol. Nope they give off less co2 which pleased the loony man made global warning brigade but they churn out nox and carcogenic (sp) pollutants which are a million times worse for our health. |

I don't think it's fair to blame the buses only, after all 'oil engines' date back to the pre war ST's. We as motorist have been conned over the years, in that diesel cars were more fuel efficient, that I can vouch for getting 50-60 mpg out of a Vectra, plus the amount of road freight there now is compared to when the majority went by rail, Smithfield having its own underground sidings. We were conned over eggs, now apparently there safe(!!) The so called 'experts' won't be happy 'til we've gone from carbon fuel to electric, in time they'll be decried, then cycles until we're back to walking!! RANT OVER |

Global Warming is a real issue and we do need to move to more renewable energy sources, electric vehicles, etc.

Not in my opinion, the environment and global warming is a major problem and if small businesses suffer then so be it. Small businesses can not really be more important than our own planet which is already suffering. If global warming continues then millions, even billions will suffer. |

Temperatures have risen on average over the last few years, yes, and there's a good chance that is global warming in action. But it's far too early to say for sure about other weather phenomena. As for your small business ideas, I am so glad you're not in government. Punitive restrictions on small business (and I am one of those) equals businesses going under. Which means higher unemployment. Which means inability to pay for essentials which means more people unable to keep a roof over their heads. Which means intolerable strain on welfare and more homelessness. I could go on, but the ultimate destination of Safwaanf1 pecuniary policies would be chaos and possible social breakdown. And if I was overweight (soon to become a disability  ) and at risk of tripping over on Islington's uneven pavement slabs... what then?  I never listen to these 'experts' or 'think tanks' as their views change too rapidly... like West Ham at the top of the league, these silly transport ideas don't last for long  Look how we marvelled at the uber efficient bendy bus... until they started catching fire, blocking junctions and becoming a magnet for fare evasion... Joe Public will soon cotton on that the 'conductor' can't force him to tap in with his card, and we're back to the '40-percent-chance-of-getting-caught-hell-i'll-risk-it' scenario... or the next Mayor may just use the next 4 years to undo the work of the current one  |
