As always, apologies if this has come up before - this forum being many thousands of threads long it wouldn't surprise me if it has - but here goes: Looking at the excellent Ian Armstrong site, I came across the turning points for route 330. I was quite surprised, for such a short and basic route the turning points probably more than double the amount of knowledge needed for it! One that caught my eye was the Plaistow Abbey Arms turn (show blind as Balaam Street) from Barking Road, via Balaam Street, Broadway and Greengate back to Barking Road. It's about 1 mile to do each turn - on a route which end to end isn't even 4 miles long! Just wondering if there are many other long winded turns such as this - or indeed other notable routes where the curtailment points account for more route knowledge than the actual route, also is this common? It's something I only noticed recently and got me wondering.....

I believe that for the 406/418, buses terminating at Surbiton (from Epsom) stops outside Hollyfield School on Surbiton Hill Road to kick passengers off, then has to travel OOS towards Kingston and turn at College Roundabout (just on the end of Penrhyn Road). One time I saw a bus stand outside Kingston Crown Court, which is the stop just before the roundabout. Another time I saw a bus stand on Surbiton Road (just before the Maplehurst Close stop).
Quite long winded, I think. The service may as well continue to Kingston Crown Court so the buses can just stand there at all times. They can call the turn 'Kingston, College Roundabout' or 'Kingston, Penryhn Road' or something.

It was, for many years, Abbey Arms but was changed shortly before iBus came in. At the time, Balaam was pronounced wrong to say "Balaaahhhm Road" when it should be "Bay-lam Street" Similarly, Canning Town Hermit Road became "Canning Town Barking Road" which is a bit vague considering how much of Barking Road is in Canning Town and East Ham "White Horse" became East Ham Central Park

On approach it announces "Bay-lam Street - alight here for Balaaahhm Leisure Centre" Noticing 'Canning Town Barking Road' on the 474 blinds I'd agree it's very vague too.

Another curtailment is the Kennington Church turn for 415 (and probably other Brixton Road routes), which makes you serve Clapham Road, the full length of both Vassall Road and Caldwell Street then in/out of stand then up Camberwell New Road then back down Brixton Road on the otherside. Or the otherway round, vice versa.

I see a WVL 06 Reg blinded for East Ham today! that really narrows it down...

Does the 69 still curtail at Hermit Road? I noticed the other day that you can no longer turn left onto Barking Road from Hermit Road - or does it use the new stand by McDonalds?

Hope I'm not upsetting 'charzoo' (apologies if the username is spelt wrong) with that lol
