Just wondering if some of you guys can name a few bus stands that are not actually in use by any current route Terminating or Curtailing there. I know some and there is an awful lot of them but I just want to know more. Thanks. There was one on Mitchley Hill in Purlry around 10 years ago. I never knew what it was used for School journeys on the 54 and later the 12A were extended there from Selsdon

How did the bus stand tho? As you come from Selsdon following the 412 route, the stand is on the seperate road - so how did the bus reach the stand? Or did the routes go via Sanderstead near Waitrose?

I don't know if we are talking about different stands but the one I'm thinking of is just a bit of rough ground on the left coming from Selsdon?

Not sure if you've done the 412 route. The one I am talking about is say you are getting the 412 from Selsdon towards Purley. It is located after the bus stop on the road to the left "Mitchely Hill". The road is at the bend towards Riddlesdown as the bus comes down the hill from Sanderstead

The bit of rough ground where they turned around is further on just before the high mounted speed camera.

Was only 10 years ago maximum and was a modern bus stand also. When did the school journeys finish?

Technically the Prince of Wales Drive bus stand* in Battersea qualifies despite it being a point yet to be used.
* - formerly a Wimbledon-bound 156 bus stop

I wish the very rarely used stand at North Acton Station and the bus stop 25-30 yards ahead of it could be swapped around. Much more convenient for alighting passengers wanting to use North Acton Station.

I sent an email to TfL as my curiosity struck! They replied: Thanks for your email on 30 January about the bus stand that used to be located at Mitchley Hill. I’ve checked and this stand was used by school bus route 612. The stand ceased to be used by scheduled services after 29 August 2003 when the route was restructured. I trust that this information is helpful to you. Thanks again for contacting us. If there’s anything else we can help you with, please reply to this email. Alternatively, you can speak to one of our Customer Service Advisers on 0343 222 1234 who’ll be happy to help. So now we know! I was surprised at TfL's quick reply TBH.

There is still a stand I believe in Aberfeldy Street for when route 309 terminated there back in 1990s Yes, plus one in Augusta street, Poplar that I've never seen used. I don't even know what the blind would say for a curtailment - POPLAR Augusta Street? I actually saw a 309 with this blind the other day.

There's a bus stand on the corner of Beacontree Way and Forest Road near Waterworks Corner. I never knew it existed until the other day, not sure if it is ever in use. This curtailment point was common back in LT/LBL days. Buses on route 123 and 144 used to turn here. Most I saw turned here was 4 buses taking stand at one time. blinds showed, Walthamstow "Beacontree Avenue"

Plaistow Bull road. Still a official turn for the 69, 262 ,473. Not been used for at least over 25 years. And Ruston street (Old ford). Fallen out of favour now number 8 uses Fish Island. Also very rarely. I doubt a boris bus could fit down Ruston street anyway. I remember the Plaistow "Bull Road" were on the blinds for the 69 and it was an officital turn. But due to buses being stuck was told that controllers would never give that turn, they actually never did.

Enfield Lock station- stand on Bradley Road on east side of station. Usually used by cars, rather than buses! There is stand on the A10 just south of the Bury Street junction. Two stands (one of each side of the road) on Wadham Road, Walthamstow just east of the Crooked Billet Interchange. Bus stands on Claremont Road, Surbiton (including one north facing just north of The Crescent). Mainly used by rail replacement buses. There is a stand on the A406 westbound between Bull Lane and the Great Cambridge junction. Bus stand on Carterhatch Lane on outside of roundabout with junction of Linwood Crescent. The Wadham Road stand, is used for buses being turned on route 212/W16

Is the stand on Suez Road in Brimsdown still used by the 491? I was shocked to find that stand there on Saturday. Yes, 491s still use the blind "Brimsdown Suez Road" though I have seen some drop passengers off at Brimsdown Station then carry on forward (probably to run direct to Waltham Cross rather than faff around with the Enfield Lock section).
