A Bexleybus Northern Counties bodied Olympian in the full blue and cream. An Optare Starrider as used around Catford. A Duple/Carlyle bodied early Dennis Dart as introduced at Bromley, a step up in quality for a small bus. I believe Olympian L264 (Bexleybus 1) has been saved by the Bromley Bus Preservation Group yay! It would also be nice for DMS2109 (once Bexleybus 98) to be repatriated from the USA for preservation : as far as I'm aware, the only former Bexleybus DMS that still exists.

I'd also add a Euro 5 Volvo B5LH to my list in a few years. I think they sound pretty cool pulling away in electric mode, followed by the big dramatic start up of the engine

Lol, you weren't at the Hatton Garden safety deposit boxes over Easter were you...? To answer my own question...it would have to be a Dart, naturally! If I could get my wish it would be one of the DR20-DR31 H***THE batch. Have very fond memories riding these Darts on the G1 as a kid. Sadly, I believe most have been scrapped now. Failing that one of GALs ex-LDP91-117 S***EGK, ex-Limebourne's Caetano Compass DCL401-437 or ex-London United DP81-99 V***FKH. Crucially any of these would have to have it's centre door still in place - none of this single door conversion butchery! PS - London United Dart SLFs were very nice and relatively high spec with some having air-con. If I remember correctly a lot of the earlier ones had seat moquette on the sides of the wall. A nice touch!

A nice touch! I think it's the 10.7m T reg ones that were on the H37 that had the seat moquette - they were nice, grunty Darts. If I was to preserve Darts, it would have to be: A 51 reg ex Connex DP (I mentioned it in an earlier post) - these went like stink and I was always happy to get one on the 315 & 322 when they wasn't on the G1. A Y reg ex Connex DA (I mentioned it in an earlier post) - though not as fast as the above DP's, I loved the deep Cummins ISBE engine on these. A staple on the 315, again I was happy to get one on the 322. A R LGH reg ex LDP - loved the single door spec on these as it meant the seating plan was nicely laid out plus they were very 'shouty' which is how I like my Euro II - the S EGK's were too civilised for my liking though the dual door spec was handy. Had many rides on the 45, 163, 164, 345, 355, 360, 413 & P5 A S JUA reg ex DDL - again, nice 'shouty' Darts but with a dual door spec and almost all of the batch kept the Cowie interior that they were ordered with. DDL12 was my favourite from memory from my rides on the 255 & 289. A former Arriva DR or DRL - never had many rides on step entrance Darts which I regret but I managed one on the 255 & one on the 450 and enjoyed both, even if they were both slow.

I remember seeing some of those Darts with side wall moquette on the 49 in Clapham Junction. It may well have been the T-reg ones. Definitely 10.7m in length. S EGKs had unusual single seats on the right hand side mounted on the low floor section behind the driver (not the wheel arch mounted ones). Very popular they were as people don't like sitting next to each other on public transport! I forgot about the Arriva S JUA batch. I should have added that to my list. I agree with you there on that one. I fondly remember riding on those when they ran the 319 before the DWLs. These were unusual in having full length Invertec lighting on both sides. Most Darts at the time were ordered with the standard four fluorescent tubes or a single continuous strip down the middle. S315, 317 and 318 JUA were part of Arriva the Shires up until recently - I think about a year or two ago - were operating on North London TFL routes as they appeared on LVF.

IIRC the 49s Darts were either DP80-99 (which had T980SRH) or 81-99 (VxxxFKH). They were much better than the TGM/Travel London/Abellio ones on the R70 in my view and I miss them. The sidewall moquette was gone from 2005 when they started to refurb them though some did complete their 10+ years of service unrefurbished. That said the OTs and MCLs are decent buses too, the DLEs not so decent.

I definitely think the T3**PRH batch of Darts were some of the best Darts to of graced the streets of (west) London, as been mentioned, they were grunty, had the moquette of the side panels and they had a good turn of speed. AV seemed to really look after these as I can't recall ever riding on one that sounded sick or knackered. Actually, as it goes, I don't think I've ever been on a knackered AV Vehicle, which is pretty remarkable considering the amount of vehicles allocated to Hounslow and the amount of times I use AV routes. My favourite was DP65, T365PRH as it almost resembled the reg of my first car T365RGH. I was well cheesed off when they replaced these excellent DP's with the smaller, naff DPS's.

Well they managed to fix SP35, sounded horrid upon arrival but now it sounds like any other SP. On a related note, are most of AVs Euro 4 SPs modified to Euro 5, as some of them sound fairly similar to Euro 5 ones. The only buses at AV that are a bit worn out are the Euro 3 SPs but that's down to the build quality I think

If I could preserve a single bus, it would be a tough choice between any 52 or 54 reg London Central PVL, or AVL1 (V101 LGC).
Supposedly AVL1 is the first Volvo B7TL. Plus it was first out of only 46 that Go Ahead London has ever bought. I don't think they've even inherited any ALX400s from any other operator over the years, though I'm probably wrong.
AVL1 would have its rear door reinstated, blind boxes, "Stopping" signs, plus its original Fainsa Cosmic seats (with black handles), complete with the fantastic original moquette, and even the horrible plastic seats at the back of the top deck. Just as a reminder of how bad a problem petty vandalism and graffiti were in South London at the time.
AVL1 would be painted in that 2002 Golden Jubilee gold colour, with the full London Central livery. (Well, hopefully anyway. As long as London Central doesn't mind me using their old livery and logo!) Plus I'd design an ad for it, if it is actually the first B7TL, displaying that fact in some creative way.
The PVL would get the same treatment, except I'd probably keep the newer Rowan Telmac seats.
Funny thing about the AVLs. When they were new, I didn't like them very much. Over the years I started to need to travel on their routes every day, and they really grew on me. I was kinda upset when they were withdrawn. You never know what you've got until it's gone.
