2503 on the 109 earlier displaying blank - noticed a couple of the batch have failed powerblinds over the last month. This happened to T281 last year. Couldn't the driver change the blind manually, unless the MMC does not have the twisty thing to change the blind manually (not sure what its called ) Unfortunately, no manual override for the drivers with smart blinds

4010 was working the Route 375 today displaying blank yellow destination and number blinds with a 375 printed on yellow A4 stuck on the windscreen just under the number blind, also a similarly size destination hiding on the dash under the wipers. Saw this earlier - What a state! Lazy drivers and allocation staff. This was done with 34255 at Rainham despite it carrying full blinds for the 372. Allocations guy (a temp from NS) was certain it didn't have blinds until I wound the round and proved it did.

That's what I thought with it, It was half showing 66 so was obvious it had the blinds - Plus I'm sure the blind mechanisms couldn't have been broken for it to be on green green in the first place.

Probably not broken but drivers seems to have lost the ability to change manual blinds since smart blinds become common. Check out the 541 daily to see what I mean

Couldn't the driver change the blind manually, unless the MMC does not have the twisty thing to change the blind manually (not sure what its called ) Unfortunately, no manual override for the drivers with smart blinds There is a manual override toggle switch behind the blind cover but it involves accessing the rear of the blind unit and having a screwdriver ready to undo the securing screw, plus in newer vehicles this can be time consuming as the blinds are normally hidden behind lost of interior trim etc.

Could you imagine the response that would get? "yeah driver could you just unscrew these screws and wind it round manually?"

Is it my imagination or are a number of operators having a lot of problems with smartblind equipped buses at the moment? Seems to be spreading to more and more operators and not just the usual suspects. Have we got to the point where a weaknes with the technology is being exposed?

is it time for LED light? No because LED's aren't the be all and end all that many seem to think. They can and do fail just like powerblinds. I'd much prefer to see more trials of the Kindle style blinds - that could really be the be all and end all for blinds.

Perhaps turning the brightness down (if it's possible), or inverting the colour (i.e black on white instead of white on black) could fix the problem.
