I was just on the 7:51 train from Southall to Paddington. I like the trains. Very spacious. Passengers still up to their usual antics of congregating towards the last two carriages despite the space.

Hopefully this means the rest of the much required works are commencing on the station upgrade

Looks like the first class 315 has headed off to the scrap yard today. Railforums UK reporting that 315 850 is headed to Booths to meet the metal cutters flame. The beginning of the end of an era in East London.

I’ve rode both and honestly I’m happy that the 345 are replacing them, absolutely comfortable trains.

TfL Rail / LO have at least got them into reasonable shape after years of decay with WAGN/FGE/One/Greater Anglia. Clearly they've had a decent innings and it is time for them to be replaced. I wait to see what the 710s are like. I don't mind the 345s but they're not stunning - I think I just struggle with TfL's idea of what constitutes a seat (narrow, too upright, thin cushion padding, hard inflexible armrests).

I agree - Feels weird them going especially as they have been around as long as I can remember (I am 39)
I lived in Manor Park during the 80s and remember them in Network South East Livery and the rather yellow internal colour scheme.

Having looked up what a Class 315 is as my train knowledge is poor, I'll be a bit mixed about their departure - i Liked the weird heater noise many of them made but the interior shape of them always looked a little odd compared to other trains. I like the 345's bar the uncomfortable seats and reliability problems

When I first came to work in London, most were still painted BR blue with off white band around the windows, the front was yellow with black emergency door, and the seats were lime green. The interior colour was very 1970s punk Network SouthEast colours commenced June 1986, but it took few years before all were repainted although they gained the 3 colour diamond logo under the unit numbers

The trains are as old as you... and me at 42 we still have the 317s and their ultra loud traction motors to enjoy on the West Anglia lines... I guess there will be a gradual replacement now?

It really does not bode well if all three instances are the 345s, especially if they are due to be the only fleet in operation very soon. 315s are likely to be around until 2020 on the Shenfield route but most likely appearing peaks only. It was always the plan that a residual fleet of 345s would remain throughout 2019 because it is not until Liv St mainline platforms are lenghtened that you can switch *all* services to 345s. With the delays to the core tunnel it's anyone's guess when the later phases of Crossrail happen.
