Lothian Buses have received some new Volvos with the new Wright Gemini front for their Airbus service. Here is a good photo that provides a contrast between Gemini 2 and brand new Gemini 3. I happen to think the Airbus livery rather suits the new angular Gemini design. It's the best looking application I've seen so far.

I think this is a Wright StreetDeck, not a Gemini 3. Its very hard to tell the difference between the two of them, but it definately looks similar to a Brighton and Hove Streetdeck on the outside It looks really nice though, i hope similar examples come to London, i very much doubt they would have luxury seats though (They should put these on the next buses on route X26)

I'm starting to like the appearance of the new Wrightbus double deck body, although in my opinion the livery and various other features can make a big difference. I prefer Brighton & Hove's livery and also think the design looks best without the glazed staircase, however I'd say the Lothian Gemini 3s have a neater style of glazed staircase compared to the version used on the StreetDeck demonstrator operated by Arriva in Derby.

Sadly, I don't share your enthusiasm for it. It just doesn't look right at the front plus I'm not a fan of those skylights - let's see what happens when the birds get to them. I think the best thing about these examples is the livery, just a shame it's on these hideous buses.

Lothian Buses now have some standard spec Volvo B5TL / Gemini 3 Chunky edition in service on route 34. www.flickr.com/photos/km_edinburgh/19152091593/in/dateposted/Keith McGillivray photo on Flickr. He has other ones too. I have to say I think Lothian have done a decent job with matching their livery to the new bodywork design. And in Keith's usual way he's been fiddling with photoshop to come with this London style variant. Different!

My first thought when I see Lothian Buses is of a country that wants independence but does not support its own industries. Now where was that Lothian rep who at the viewing of the Enviro 400MMC bus said that Lothian would certainly buy them. Perhaps brown envelopes have taken priority

Events have progressed quickly at Lothian Buses. I was last in Edinburgh just under a year ago. Already they have has the new Volvo B5TLs and these new-style Geminis since then!

It is reported that Lothian have placed an order for 316 buses from Wrightbus 4 year deal Apparently it's an enviromental strategy called BUS2020 Mix of diesel, hybrid and electric Only details of types so far are 5 Streetair EVs by summer 2017, with another 6 in 2018

Just to upset "the Queen, the Queen, the Queen of the Random Buses Scene" here is a night shot of one of Lothian's brand new Volvo / Froggie buses with slender front pillars. They're very nicely finished inside too. Photo credit - Keith McGillivray. Lothian Buses: 14.12.16 by KM_Edinburgh, on Flickr

In addition to having the glazed pillars these also have the diagonal strip separating the top of the staircase glazing from the upper deck windows to the rear of the stairs, as on the open top buses. All previous Gemini 3 or StreetDeck bodies with glazed staircase panels retained 'normal' upper deck windows, whatever variant of staircase glazing they were fitted with (there have been at least three). Interestingly these don't have the larger front destination display which the earlier batches for Lothian had.
In my opinion the revised livery certainly suits the shape of the bus better, though it does make the square end to the advert panel stand out even more. I can understand why they didn't fit one with the corner cut off, as it will be the same shape and size as the nearside ones (it is noticeable that no Enviro400 Citys in London appear to have received offside adverts, more than a year after the first entered service).
As for the pillars themselves, and more specifically the appearance from the outside as even though I had no a problem with the original design I realise these will be an improvement for some passengers, to me they don't look as well as black painted panelling does. It could just be that the window itself is not as deep as the front or side windows, or maybe it makes the front window seem odd as it neither stays at the same height as the others or follows the more rounded shape of the roof. But overall I'd say these buses look much smarter than Lothian's previous Gemini 3s.
