Nice footage of various parts of Central London in 1956. Shows the battle with traffic volumes hasn't changed much in nearly 60 years. Lots of RTs and various Green Line vehicles plus vintage commercial vehicles. player.bfi.org.uk/film/watch-central-london-traffic-1956/The presumption that the car is predominant is quite a shock compared to today's thinking about Central London.

Nice piece of nostalgia! Couple of points I'd make: a)How impolite drivers were at the start in not letting the Bedford lorry out onto the westbound Embankment, b) Oxford Street with MOVING traffic, not just buses, c)No one lets out the bus in Regent Street and d)pedestrians were just as 'suicidal' then and that's without the cell phones
