It appears one of the new 717s was being used this morning, but has broken down near Essex Road, so whole Moorgate branch is suspended
Have heard plan is to get another 717 from depot and use that to tow it out, so someone might get rare sight of a 12 car 717 formation heading back through Finsbury Park about 8am

I think you'll be waiting until 2019 for an announcement on South Eastern. I know the franchise end date is looming but DfT can shift that if they need to. I thought Denmark Hill is South Eastern so GTR won't spend money there? Whilst Southeastern and LO both operate more trains per hour from the station GTR manages to still be the operator of Denmark Hill. From what i can see GTR does not enage with the station at all. On the four platforms of Denmark Hill station, please tell me why there is not even one bin for litter let alone recycling. There are least used stations that Geoff Marshall has covered that have at least a plastic bag. Again this busy station which serves a large areas of South East london has 1 ticket machine and a limited / part time ticket office. I can only describe the station as a joke. I agree about Denmark Hill, at peak times the station struggles to cope and often the ticket gates are left open to try and speed things up, I must admit I hadn't noticed the lack of bins. Brixton and Elephant & Castle must be the worst stations in London?

Brixton and Elephant & Castle must be the worst stations in London? Dont get me started on Elephant & Castle. Every morning I go to this station it stinks of urine. It is dingy, depressing and very higgledy-piggledy. It reminds of how Hackney Downs used to be during the WAGN and early ‘One’ days. I deliberately left out E&C from my rant as at least there are plans for redevelopment, once work begins on the Shopping Centre.

Seems to be a little bit more to this. www.railwaygazette.com/news/news/uk/single-view/view/oyster-and-contactless-payment-to-be-extended-further-outside-london.htmlNow the extension to Hertford North / Epsom is not exactly news. The bit that is suprising is the reference to a consultation in 2019 about extending Oyster PAYG to more stations outside Greater London. I can't find the announcement on the DfT website so can't go to the source. There appears to be a growing realisation at the DfT that having more accurate journey pattern info from the use of smart ticketing brings benefits. I also assume that DfT are happy to exploit the enhanced capability in the Oyster system that has been put in place for Crossrail.

They were filming with a 717 in the Moorgate branch tunnels last night. Don't know if the two incidents are related or not.

The incidents are related, the 717 was running under headcode 5K80 which is used for our Fire Evacuation Procedure, as you may well be aware there are different procedures on the Northern City Line from Drayton Park to the buffer stops at Moorgate.

No need for apologies. Southeastern had run the station until 2012/13 then idiotcally this was switched to GTR (the logical move would have been to switch to LO who had just started serving the station). I will definitely be drafting a polite correspondence to Mr Verwer. The station is well staffed and there are enough Ontrak team members around. The main problem is the station building in situ was designed on passengers numbers from 2008/09 and does not work at all for the amount of people that use the station today or will use it once Thameslink and London Overground increase the service. During AM peaks you will have 3 services (2 very full, 1 half empty) at once and all passengers from these services have to squeeze through the 2 (of 5) ticket barriers. The narrow corridors also do not support the large crowds as most passnegers use the old staircase which is closer to the ticket concourse than use the new Access for All ramp. The local MP has previously contacted the TOC regarding the Station capacity problems. From what I remember the outcome was a half baked promise on adding an entrance. At work today i briefly glanced at the intranet and it seemed to mention an expansion at Denmark Hill Station beginning from 22nd December. Im going to try and get a better look at the bulletin tomorrow. In the meantime there was this article a few weeks ago which discussed a short term interventions and temporary entrance which seems feasible at Denmark Hill. Update From 22nd December Denmark Hill Station will introduce a passenger one way system. Platform entrance is via the old footbridge Platform exit is via the new footbridge In the last two years, extra 600,000 passengers have used the station, making congestion on the old footbridge unsustainable. The longer term plan is to build a second entrance on Windsor Walk. I personally dont think this will start off well come the new year hopefully passengers will adjust otherwise there will be a lot of peeved tweets to Thameslink and LO.

Quick 717 update.
The latest rumours are that 3 diagrams are set to commence from 21/01 or 28/01, this was pushed back from 14/01 but no official confirmation or diagrams have been released as of yet. 717024 was the latest unit to be delivered to Ferme Park and ultimately Hornsey yesterday Lunchtime. So that's 23 out of 25 units to be delivered to GTR, although a number of units have gone back to Dollands Moor for warm storage prior to Christmas, those units being 011,016,018,020,022. A few are also at Cricklewood those being, 002,004,009,015 although some more are due to go over to CW.
My conversion to sign the 717's has been pushed back once again until the end of this month, as the course was on a hiatus over the festive period whilst the company focused on ensuring the December timetable changed smoothly.
Any of you photographers out today - i'm driving the 13:54 Finsbury to Peterborough, all the other photos i've had taken the blind has been too low!

People moan about the service yet when they're offered a survey form to air their grievances they can't be bothered, probably assuming it won't make any difference anyway! Human nature I guess?

The full weekend services look to be reintroduced in May on GN/TL along with the second Cambridge - Brighton services. The Welwyn Garden City - Sevenoaks peak services should be introduced Dec 19 with the Cambridge - Maidstone/Ashford via Lbg services hopefully by May 20. This should hopefully allow the proposed London Blackfriars - Sutton via Wimbledon peak (Southern) services (to Lbg via Mitcham Junction) start once the peak Sevenoaks run via the Core. Have no idea on the weekend TL services running from the core to/from Finsbury Park and beyond as more services are yet to be uploaded.

I think a lot of that will be based on how much Route Learning has progressed from either side. More depots come into the mix in regards to Route Learning especially on the good side!

717006 has entered passenger service working the 11:37 Moorgate - Gordon Hill service.
It should work the 13:37 Moorgate - Gordon hill service if everything goes to plan.
