Local Newspapers also reported the school is open today, largest school building in the country apparently so the EL1 will have a fun year ahead of it. I don't see why the EL3 couldn't have been extended via the EL1 then rerouted when the time comes in 2018?

Daft question but I assume the allocation of NB4Ls at RR is large enough to cater for the eventual enhanced PVR needed to serve the school and revised route (for the EL3)?

I'm not too sure if I'm being honest, they have 51 buses with a PVR of 46. Not the tightest but should the EL3s increase be more than a single bus in the future it could lead to some pretty tight allocations. However that said I imagine if it gets very bad TfL will transfer some LTs over from PVR reductions while they butcher services in Central London.

PVR remains the same until at least 2021 depending on how the development progresses within the area and the overground extension is completed. When this proposed route EL4 starts then there will be a PVR increase to EL1 again.

EL4? where would that go now Barking Riverside - Becontree Heath Bus Station via some unbuilt roads to the Lodge Avenue flyover, from there it shall follow route 62 to Martin's Corner and then follow route 5 and EL2 to Becontree Heath Bus Station.

What's wrong with this borough; most densely populated primary school in the country (Gasgoigne Primary) and now largest school building?! I had a cycle down to the new terminus last week. Gosh the new school looks like it's in the middle of nowhere and the same goes for the LTs standing close to the school as well. The alighting point is near the new school and buses stand somewhere more remote from there via a bus only access road, with the only street furniture being temporary floodlights and a portaloo. But blimey, it's a good kilometer's trek back to River Road, and further for services on the EL2/3 if pupils felt the need to walk. I suppose it's good for pupils and teachers alike to be teaching in an environment where there's not much disturbance of the acoustic kind. Mind you that won't last; the car park for the school is made entirely of gravel!!

On my travels getting EL1 home you can see how isolated it is when you see 3 LT's standing there in the distance from Renwick Road. They have started piling works for the next phases of houses near the school so hopefully 6-9 months time there will be more life around there. I tend to follow Barking Riverside Twitter handle for some updates or I just have a walk around to see what progress has been made

It also won't last when they start building the GOBLIN extension which must run fairly close to the school if I've understood its location properly.

Often back when I would come home from Sixth Form, and even these days when I return to Barking at Kick-Out time it's pretty common to find Riverside Pupils all over the town centre hanging around. Therefore I'm assuming that there's quite a large portion of students that come from the Barking Town Centre area at least. The school has also just recently got its first set of GCSE results placing it in quite a decent position in the league tables so I assume they'll have quite a steady flow of pupils from all over the borough for quite a while to come. I do agree that dedicated school services would work, but I assume it was cheaper/easier to just arrange the EL3 to run the few extra journeys as for next year the EL3 "should" be running to the school full time negating the need of a new school route.

You often see students having to walk to the school due to the buses being overcrowded during peaks. It would be ideal to extend EL3. During non-school hours, there is a physical barrier that is down and is not manned. Looking at the rate of development going on around that area hopefully there shouldn't be any delay in making the extension and re-routing permanent during summer. Parking on Mallards Road is still an ongoing problem as residents do not wish to park their cars in a dedicated underground car park and rather on the main road itself causing buses to queue sometimes. Time for the council to start properly enforcing that area methinks.
