New route 483 replacing the 83 between Alpterton and Ealing Hospital
Ealing Hospital Bus Station Hanwell Broadway West Ealing Ealing Broadway North Ealing Hanger Lane Station Alperton Station Wembley Central Station Wembley Stadium Station Wembley Park Station North Wembley Station Northwick Park Hospital Harrow Town Centre
Why not leave the 83 as it is and have a single deck route between Alperton and Harrow Town Centre via Northwick Park Hospital if such a route is considered necessary. I suspect the introduction of a 483 is part of a Mayoral strategy to brag about how many bus routes are operated by TfL. Since the 29 reverted to ordinary double deck buses, I feel the 329 has been rendered unnecessary. The 29 could easily be extended back to Enfield, perhaps with some journeys terminating at Winchmore Hill.

The purpose of the 483 is to link Ealing with Harrow because at the moment there Isn't one. I think linking Harrow and Ealing is good thing.

Plus the 83 has a journey time of nearly 1h and 40 mins so probably needs shortening now for reliability.

I suspect the introduction of the 483 is actually some sort of measure to assist the 83 - it's a very long route and is prone to meeting some nasty traffic hotspots. I'm afraid we're aren't in the olden days anymore where you can have routes stretching from one side of London to the other. It's why I'd suspect any extended 29 would crumble to pieces as well.

I don't think the mayor has any input on such matters so I think we can knock any conspiracy theories on the head. I'm not sure about the 29, it used to run in sections anyway, but there is scope for some longer routes.

The 29 could easily be extended back to Enfield, perhaps with some journeys terminating at Winchmore Hill. The Mayor doesn't have a strategy for buses other than reducing subsidy, buying 800 NB4Ls and having to buy hybrids because the air quality is so awful. You'd struggle to find reference to even these things if you looked at the Transport Strategy. TfL are only managing to expand the network because Boris is going and they've managed to bolster the budget a bit when he's not paying much attention. Enjoy it while it lasts. It's about time Ealing and Harrow had a direct link. Ditto Ealing to Hounslow. It's good to see TfL aiming to fill some of these very longstanding network gaps. Wood Green is very fortunate to have three decent frequent services into Zone 1 - 29, 67 and 141 - when you consider how frequent the Piccadilly Line is. Not many areas are so blessed. However those routes are all prone to problems in Zone 1. I suspect the users of the 329 are actually fairly happy to have a localised route that is frequent and reasonably reliable - not perfect but not bad IME of using it. They wouldn't be pleased to be relying on a route running from Zone 1 if it meant big gaps, curtailments etc. The 329 is not exactly immune from those itself and that's just with having to deal with Enfield's, Palmers Green's and Wood Green's traffic jams and parking.

I assume you left out the 243 because it isn't as 'decent' as the other three...if so I'd say your right, that route can be a right pain!

I still used to love that route (I lived on Lordship Lane) and back in the day, early mornings was guaranteed DLA thrash when the roads were clear Though by 9, it was a nightmare, Dalston, Shoreditch, Clerkenwell, and what Camden Council call 'Midtown' (Red Lion Square / Holborn to you and me) are known black spots for traffic. The current 83 has the two lanes into one free for all at Hanwell, the crawl thru West Ealing to Ealing Broadway, the choked North Circular Road, equally choked Alperton and Wembley, I'm surprised that the route runs as well as it does The 483 will help a great deal. I don't think it's about number of routes or high route numbers (they could have used 239/310/374 IMHO ) but anything to help Joe Public get around

Or used the number 84. If there is a 7 and 58 in Uxbridge then why not re use the number 84 as the current one is nothing it to do with TFL and can come under ' other operators services'.

Perfect opportunity to reuse the number 84 but TfL totally missed it. Ah well, it's only a problem for OCDs like me ;D

To me a truck route should always have number below 299 in my opinion. Probably why I don't like the 452 but love the 148. The 148 feels like it's been around for ever.

Most numbers between 1-300 are in Use so will of course use the 400 Series. Only Numbers not in use are 84 218 239 When splitting a Route in Half TFL usually find whatever number is free in another Hundred Series and number it say 468. Many Examples 21, 321 36, 136, 436 - In Addition 136 which was the 36B 37, 337 53, 453 63, 363 68, 168, 468 - 168 Was the 68A So I see no reason why 483 is a bad number. Though I do agree with using the number 84. 83 & 84

I have a bad feeling that route 25 will be split as well because when it runs from Ilford to oxford circus the journey times are 2 hours at pick times but I hope they don't touch it and leave it alone

I'm probably in a minority but I couldn't care less about route numbers, the 483 can be numbered 301 or whatever for all I care. The current trend can cause confusion as well for example I saw someone on a 168 recently who mistook it for a 68 and wondered why it turned into New Kent Road, makes a nonsense of the argument for getting rid of suffix letters.
