Thinking about a day out on the buses in Leeds but the day ticket I see seems to be restricted to First routes. Does anyone know of a day ticket which will allow me to ride the longer distance Arriva routes. My base in Leeds is rather close to the southern boundary of the Leeds PlusBus ticket.

Not too sure but do any of the West Yorkshire Metro tickets cover anything? What's planned? DB250 Lowlander thrash or SB200? Not too familiar with the area as the last time I went there I was 12 on a family trip to Hebden Bridge It was all Yorkshire Rider Atlanteans then

And just in time for a visit to Leeds we see Harrogate and District are upgrading their high profile route 36 (Ripon to Leeds). harrogatebus.co.uk/36.htm4G wifi, USB charging, leather seats, glass roof, "chill out" area downstairs, brand new Wright bodied Volvo B5TLs.

Even with a bit of Best Impressions magic? that is still one really ugly bus

Is Harrogate and Ripon covered by a West Yorkshire Day ticket? I rather like the idea of speeding through the Yorkshire countryside in leather seats.

The WY ticket runs as far as Harewood. You'd need to pay an add on fare. Alternatively buy a Transdev Day Tripper £9 which will give you access to all of Transdev's services in West Yorkshire, York and across to Manchester. You'd need a Day Tripper Plus if you wanted to use the Coastliner routes east of York towards Whitby and Scarborough. All this stuff is quite easy to find if you just search for the relevant websites and pull up a map or timetables / fares info.

The Yorkshire fleet is one of my favourites within Arriva. They have some refurbished LF Spectras, Geminis some to MAX spec, and E400s all to MAX or Sapphire spec. They also have some Volvo B5LHs. All these types can be located in Leeds, except that MAX Geminis are still mainly on Wakefield - Dewsbury services until remaining examples on route 229 are fully upgraded to MAX spec.

I'd broadly agree with that. I got back up to West Yorkshire last year and the core Arriva Yorkshire operation seems pretty decent. The buses are in reasonable nick, they have invested in key routes and not wrecked the less remunerative ones. It may not be quite the heyday of the West Yorkshire Road Car / Yorkshire Woollen but the areas served have changed greatly over the years. There seemed to be decent numbers using the Arriva routes - better than some of what First was managing.

That said, I do like the ex-Olympic Games Volvo B9TLs. It is unusual for me to prefer an ex-NBC company in an area to the ex-PTC but Leeds is a case in point! I am also a member of the West Yorkshire Bus Forum, and add more posts to Arriva threads than First threads there.

Although the map on the Leeds Plusbus page shows only the city of Leeds, I am now told by Plusbus that the Leeds ticket covers the whole of West Yorkshire. Very confusing

Very confusing Quite often the case in the former Metropolitan Counties. That's how it works in West Midlands. I had no problems on the buses in the West Midlands using one.

The Leeds PlusBus covers the whole of West Yorkshire - I had no issues of it being accepted by any of the drivers. Only the towns that are most relevant to the city are shown on the map, but the PlusBus is valid in the whole of the green shaded area.

I went to Leeds yesterday. I had my maiden voyage on both a Volvo B5TL and a new-style Gemini 3 on route 36. I rode several First and Arriva buses. Intriguingly, an independent in the area, SquarePeg, runs route 22 from Seacroft to Rothwell using ex-Arriva Yorkshire Spectras. It is due for withdrawal on March 19th.
