I was wondering what if Apple or Microsoft Designed the IBus. Microsoft's would require regular updates.

The initial trials started in 2006 and roll-out started in early 2008 and was completed by early 2009
also worth noting that over the years the system has had many upgrades and updates but the basic framework of the system is the same as it was when first installed.

London United and Arriva London North installed iBus in 2007.

On balance I think I-Bus has been a good development and has helped improve bus services for Londoners. Anyone disagree? Was it really 2006?! I assume 2006 was when the 73 trials were held? I had in my mind it was 2008 - I remember travelling on a 216 towards Staines which had the announcements on long before any of the other routes in my area got it. IIRC it was route W4 that had the actual ibus MDT's and the workstations at the [AR] band 3 that showed the buses in GPS format. I do recall the passenger ibus information screens on the 149 MA's but think they still used the band 3 radios. I also recall that the system seemed to be very similar to what was already on TTC buses in Toronto, Canada; so was not fresh out of the box. We also had a similar system in 1994 that worked on the SLW/LLW with a sensor on the wheel hub to detect mileage and did the announcements with an on board display. It wasn't entirely reliable as it wasn't GPS.
