Good news for those who regularly complain about "cast offs from London".

Nowhere to send our 456's now... They always send cast offs op narth. I travel to Liverpool quite a lot and some of the stock they use on the suburban lines in and around that area is diabolical. New trains definitely needed.

New trains definitely needed. I think Merseytravel have started the procurement process for new trains for their electric network. It'll be interesting to see who wins the business as there are quite severe constraints in the tunnel sections. Siemens might be in with a chance given they won the TSGN order for the new stock on GN inners.

I think it will be the final nail in the coffin for the D78 diesel conversions... a plucky firm called Vivarail wanted to foist 'Class 230' DEMU (ex District Line stock with Ford Transit engines ) with a top speed of just 60 miles an hour for the North, replacing the class 142 Pacers more here www.vivarail.co.uk/blog/ I think it's only fair the North gets new stock, like down South. Abellio have lost Northern, I don't know how long they will keep Merseyrail (I think they are in a consortium with Serco), let alone AGA
