As we are only couple of weeks away from 66 reg (starts 1st Sept), thought I would list the remaining 51-reg buses that are now approaching their 16th year Go-Ahead : DMN 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 LDP 191, 192, 193, 194, 195, 198, 200, 202, 204, 205, 206, 207, 208, 209, 210 RATP : TA 213, 214, 218, 220, 221, 222, 223, 224, 225 Abellio : 8440, 9744, 9756, 9757, 9759 No other Operators remaining with 51-reg, Until recently Metroline had DPs and Sullivan ELV3, 6, but all stopped June/July Some routes change Operator during August so remains to be seen how many of these survive into 66-reg period There are about 150 02-reg remaining in case anyone is wondering Don't count out 9739 just yet. Although unlikely, it could make a return until it's definite withdrawal in December.

Until recently Metroline had DPs and Sullivan ELV3, 6, but all stopped June/July DP1009/11/13 remain in service, as do ELV3 and ELV6. ELV6 is currently on the 298!

Abellio 8436, Metroline DP 1009, 1010, 1011, 1013, Sullivan ELV 3, 6 Haven't done a count up, but about 180 buses are 51reg or 02reg so in 15th or 16th year Hopefully this finally debunks the theory that TFL has a max age of 14 years for buses As far as I'm aware some of these have no replacements on order yet.

Perhaps we can get the 52 reg DLAs back for the 123 if the age limit has been removed, it's only because the cupboard is bare after foolish cycle schemes, Garden Bridges etc and there's nothing left for new incentives for operators to replace the oldest of stock

Some of Abellio's older stock are likely to be withdrawn from December. With the loss of the 152 and 157 around thirty buses will become surplus, bearing in mind refurbishments may still be ongoing which hopefully holds some of those ex-Connex Tridents that bit longer... but also bearing in mind some Volvos will then become surplus seeing as the leased Tridents on the 172 are apparently staying on until contract end.

I assume the older 172 fleet is cheaper per month per bus than the Volvos. Abellio are also closing some Surrey routes end of year, and losing 235 early Jan so about another 30 buses will be spare.

With a bit of luck those Volvos will be shown the door like the first 20 "doosty" Enviros were. Rail replacement has been more enjoyable since those things disappeared!

Daft question - can you explain the meaning / derivation of "doosty" for the E400s? You're the only person I've ever seen use it and I've no clue what it means.

It's an affectionate term for the Euro 5 Enviros 9467 - 9523. It means dirty or rubbish, the buses earning the nickname due to the extreme degree to which they are acceleration rate and top speed restricted. If I enquire at the garage if there are any green buses on the road, the response will often be "nah, it's all doosties out there." Almost nobody likes them, save for the rare occasion it's a hot day and air con becomes a desired feature.

With the London United TAs disappearing fast (only 6 used today), what will be the oldest double deck, I know GAL still has 3 02-reg PVLs, Sullivan’s has 51-reg ELV6, but are there any other 16 year olds?
On single deck front, RATP is probably clear winner by quantity for still using 2002 buses, but with new arrivals due in few weeks, the oldest single deck might go to someone else, I think Stagecoach might have handful of 2002 buses

Go-Ahead’s handful of 51 reg LDP’s probably rival those 51 reg DPS.

The buses from the 386 could return to Plumstead to get rid of this and the 03 regs there. Mind you 36336 had lots of blue smoke yesterday.
