There is a feature in this weeks Coach & Bus Week about the ADL Enviro 500s, available for purchase or "reading whilst waiting for the missus to finish in Debenhams" It's a great bus - I used one of Dublin Buses examples back in 2007 and they would be so welcomed for routes like the 18, 25, 86, 207, 427, etc.

Tower Transit's second batch of routes, within their first contract, started operation today (26 June Singapore Time). Nice to see that they have created guides for each of the routes they've taken over and you can see clearly where the routes run on their website using Google Maps.
Singapore is notorious for having not easy to use paper bus maps (at stops) and their excellent Transit Guide was killed off a few years ago. Tower Transit's info is a significant improvement over what the Singapore government, SBS Transit or SMRT have bothered to produce for bus services.
It's interesting that a couple of the routes that pass by the hotel I've used a few times in Singapore are now in the hands of Tower Transit.

Tower Transit say they have had a good start in Singapore under the new contracting model. Video clip shows their version of the "I-Bus room". Seems that some of the gripes we have in London (slow running buses, long gaps) have been noticed by Singapore passengers since the new contract started. Wonder if Singaporeans go into "Kissy Teeth, grumble under the breath" mode? www.channelnewsasia.com/news/video/tower-transit-claims-good/2923402.html

Interesting that the MAN 3 door decker is the one being trialled and not the modified Enviro 500. Having watched a youtube clip the new bus is very quiet inside and pretty smooth. I still can't get used to seeing Singapore buses in a vivid green livery - looks so out of place to me. It is also interesting that MAN have come up with a similar concept three door single decker version. Not sure why to be honest given SG single decks have very few seats because of the extremely generous double wheelchair bays that many low floor buses have. Note also how young the "bus fans" are in SG - not many old fogies in anoraks with flasks although it's usually far too warm for anoraks. This clip is quite long but it shows you how the internal layout of the bus works plus a few little glitches with the door arrangement but it was the first day. Note also the wide range of different roads that buses use in Singapore. Hong Kong is similar. PS can we have some on route 5 in London?

The MAN was the only functional bus, as it was constructed by severing an existing A95/NL323F chassis and adding another section to extend it before it was bodied locally. The E500MMC isn't a modified bus, nor it is an active bus. The display unit doesn't have an engine etc. Hence why the MAN A95 decker was trialled only - to test the concept of 3 doored buses in general. And a cross-section of younger enthusiasts in SG, I don't see as many younger enthusiasts in London anymore!

They are everywhere in HK and SG, here in London I see enthusiasts photographing normal vehicles very rarely.

The latest round of network tendering in Singapore has recently concluded. This is for the Bukit Merah package which covers part of the Central Business District and southern Singapore. SBS Transit have won this package against some stiff competition from China, UK and Australia. Go Ahead's bid was the most costly but the contract was not awarded on the basis of lowest cost, there were quality criteria which helped SBS Transit (Comfort Delgro, owners of Metroline) win this package. The routes covered are in the LTA press release - it includes Singapore's route 123! www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/sbs-transit-wins-bukit-merah-bus-package-for-s-472-million-9985310Land Transport Authority press release
