Not sure if this is quite the right place for a post about Glasgow's Subway aka the Clockwork Orange. It's going to get new unmanned trains and a new signalling and control system.

It might be better to do this and see how it goes before TFL put driverless trains on the tube, as a testbase. The livery looks like Sydney Trains in Australia.

This is a very brave move by the transport people in Glasgow. The subway has a tiny profile and there are no side walkways in the tunnels. Further the use of Stadler as a supplier of such a complex solution and new trains is not without risk. They have no great experience of building tube type stock and are also new to the UK market. I just hope someone has worked through all the project risks and made sure they are mitigated or properly allocated with funding in case things go wrong.

I personally wish/hope the new trains end up orange with white doors rather than the other way round. Gosh I'm shallow

Today's Railways UK state that these new trains will enter service until 2021 now. This follows "delays and design challenges experienced to date".

This is excellent news. I was postponing a visit to Glasgow to ride electric buses with First and McGills until the new Subway trains are in service. I expect to go next year now, potentially around September.
