Don't like them - generates litter and reduces luggage/shopping bag space. Though I suppose every opportunity to raise revenue must be taken given the cuts that are happening!

Thats one of the problems I see with having the Metro available on buses. I was on a South West Trains Class 455 on Monday just after the morning rush hour and there were newspapers all over the d*mn place! They should encourage people to throw the newspaper away if you're done with it or take it with you.

I saw one on the D6 a few days ago, I took a pic of it. I was horrified. It would end up with loads of papers on the floor. In the early 2000's I used to get them from stations and put them on the bus, back then it wasn't as bad. Around 2010, I stopped as it would have a few on the floor, if anyone did want to put them on or any other free paper I would refuse them.

Has anyone worked out why, based on the comments so far, this fitment programme seems confined to Go Ahead London vehicles? Seems odd that GAL would contract individually with Metro to do this.

Noticed the 64reg E200s in BC which dont have the holder treatment are also getting newspapers dumped in.

Totally against the "Metro box" - I do use the luggage shelf regularly on trips between London and Coventry. Although I don't do Skype calls whilst on the bus anymore (thanks to certain people) which means I can hold the luggage, I prefer it to be on the shelf than the wheelchair area. It is utterly wrong and disagree with the waste of paper on centre-right wing free newspapers (no bias).

Just seen my first one of these on a WVL on the 357. The B9s aren't exactly blessed with a large luggage area anyway but it's now rendered useless by this metal tray. I know GAL are responsible for the vehicles but I wonder if TfL have sanctioned the loss of luggage / storage space on these buses? I know a lot of people prefer to keep bags with them if they can but plenty of people use the luggage shelf for shopping, folded buggies (sometimes), cases, tool kits etc. Strikes me as not really acceptable.
Have any of these holders been fitted to NB4Ls allocated to GAL? If not, I wonder if TfL have said no or just prevent modifications to vehicles they own?
