This is the one reason and quite possible the only reason I am supporting the works, some routes will serve the bus station in both directions (which is better than the case now) and it can make life so much more easier. However I really hope this all gets planned out properly. Some adequate traffic management at the bus station needs to be put in place, currently the bus station gets jammed with buses as it is and doubling the amount of 25s which run through there won't help matters . What I'd personally do is run the 25 and 425 westbound around via the Grove so that towards Holborn Circus/Clapton they pick up on the new stop opposite the main bus station as opposed to having to navigate the whole bus station as per plan. Is there a time frame for the works? One can assume the postponement of the extension of 425 to Ilford could be due to the works. From Newham Site : If the changes are approved we will start construction in autumn 2017 after we have consulted with the community and key stakeholders. Due to the scale of the project, construction will take place in phases. During construction we will work closely with local businesses and residents to keep disruption as low as possible. We aim to complete the improvements by spring 2019.

Much of what you've written above also applies to Stratford. It is very annoying that some routes only serve the station in one direction, with the other direction being a trek though the shopping centre (and one that can be quite intimidating too at certain times) or the long way round the outside. Or get moaned at on here for daring to use a bus for one stop . This is the one reason and quite possible the only reason I am supporting the works, some routes will serve the bus station in both directions (which is better than the case now) and it can make life so much more easier. I agree that is literally probably the only good thing that will come of the works but I have grave concerns - unless the bus station is going to increase in size to accommodate all these routes passing through in both directions, I can't see how it would work at all.

I agree and I think most of these schemes offer a genuine improvement to the vast majority. I agree, I think car users are usually worse off overall, but considering the improvements that pedestrians and cyclists get, I'd say overall the new layouts offer the best compromise, unlike one-way systems which very much benefit car users only. One way systems do not just benefit car users - they are a benefit to a pedestrian and to traffic flow. These junctions aren't actually the main problem - we all agree that there is too much congestion & in particular, cars on the road yet politicians don't want to tackle the issue at all because guess what - the driver lobby would go berserk but I'm afraid if people want better managed roads, you'll have to greatly reduce motor traffic. Discriminating against perfectly decent one way systems is stupid as is wasting money on public realm junctions (there, I've coined a sort of new phrase) because squeezing everyone into smaller roads will only make things worse. The new layouts at Elephant & Archway are god awful - Elephant seems to snarl up even more so than when there was a northern roundabout which distributed traffic far better.

The problem is that there's literally no room to expand it. The only way I can see it working is if the traffic priorities are changed at the end of the bus station so that buses have the opportunity to leave the bus station much more frequently and therefore not creating a jam. An alternative is to remove a few of the bays for the TfL vans somewhere else and place two or three bays there for the D8, then the west facing stand can be completely removed and turned into a new lane for buses looping the bus station and going into stand.

Plenty of space at Stratford City / Stratford International for more buses and / or TfL vans. It's not the biggest hardship in the world if controllers have to walk over the bridge to pick up their van. I think there is also TfL staff accommodation at Stratford City - not sure if it is used or not. Certainly the public info office that was built has never opened.
