The last Virgin train service is currently making it's way up Wolverhampton.
1997 to 2019, thank you virgin Trains. Ups and downs but they did transform journeys on the West Coast. I just hope Avanti serves just as well.

I've been unimpressed with Virgin Trains whenever I've used them.

I've been unimpressed with Virgin Trains whenever I've used them. Most people will have good and bad experience on most services. Sorry but it has to be said Virgin did try and go that extra mile and I cant think on a single other company that has had so much public affection shown to it! Just look at its Twitter feed!

I've been unimpressed with Virgin Trains whenever I've used them. The four trips I've done with them I had no issues - get ready to be less impressed with the new operator.

I must confess that I've not looked at their twitter account but a quick look at their online reviews shows plenty of complaints. uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.virgintrains.co.ukThere is also an ongoing thread on the rail UK forum about surly staff at Euston. I generally prefer to avoid Euston completely and use the Southern service to Milton Keynes and change there. I've had mixed experiences with most train operators, maybe I've just been unlucky with VT but I've never had a positive experience with them.

So since yesterday was Virgin Trains' final day, me and two friends made a day trip to London yesterday and took the very last Virgin Trains service back to Manchester Piccadilly. Unfortunately as the wipers on our Pendolino failed en route, we only made it as far as Stockport where the train was terminated and went back to Longsight depot, and eventually we were taken forward to Manchester on a four car Northern Class 150. It was a bad PR stunt for Virgin and my tweet about this was used in an Evening Standard article about the train not making it to Manchester .Nevertheless, we were lucky to be the first people onboard the train at Euston as it was pretty much full all the way to Stockport and as we were sat in First Class, the first class hosts helped to create a party atmosphere in our carriage upto Stafford where everyone was tired. Despite the journey being ended suddenly at Stockport, Virgin Trains have been an absolutely fantastic company to travel with and it is a real shame to see them leave our railways. I always wonder what would've been if they were still running both this, the East Coast and CrossCountry franchises and I do hope they win another franchise in the future. It really won't be the same travelling with Avanti West Coast, and although LNER have continued most of Virgin's good work on the East Coast Franchise, I'm not sure if Avanti will continue Virgin's legacy.

The Avanti website has been down all day and seems to be issues with booking seats too compared to the Virgin app

My understanding from BBC Breakfast that the Avanti management team is the same as the Virgin one, which is unusual as normally incoming companies would bring in their own people. The fact that Avanti is the same management team does fill me with a bit more confidence. I always had good experiences with Virgin travelling to Coventry for conferences so hopefully Avanti will hold the same high standards towards customer service.

I've been unimpressed with Virgin Trains whenever I've used them. Everyone has different opinions of each franchise, they all have there highs and lows but for me I never had a problem with Virgin, the brand will be missed , also Avanti have mostly the same management team in place

Much better than their cursed South Western tie up with MTR, dogged by disruption. Still, this could all be replaced by British Rail once Jeremy Corbyn is in power by Friday

Nice to see that the Voyagers will get new interiors despite their withdrawal being so soon, given the Pendolinos are remaining I would have thought it would make more sense to refurbish this but nevertheless a nice touch from Avanti.

You might want to edit that last word Edited, thanks for spotting.
