Just sticking this here as this consultation is not yet officially live on the TfL website, but according to the source below, it will be soon. The KENDRA magazine (the local magazine for Kenley residents) has reported that Croydon Council and TfL are planning a consultation for their plan to remove the hail and ride section and replace it with fixed bus stops. The Kenley Residents Association are opposing the move as it will reduce the amount of parking spaces on the route. Here's a picture i took of the report: Attachment Deleted |

It will be a shame that that is being consulted on. Being my local route I will certaintly be replying and no doubt others will opposing the changes. The large majority of the route is H&R but will we see if there is any uproar. They already have the timetable Panels throughout the whole route all set up with iBus announcements so we will see what happens. I imagine however there will be little support but we will see if TfL presses ahead or not. |

Take Northwood Avenue for example, the whole road is lined up with cars parked - some of the houses have no garages so the homeowners are right to be annoyed. The parking along the route is lamentable even on my road, removing more parking spaces will make the problem worse. |

Take Northwood Avenue for example, the whole road is lined up with cars parked - some of the houses have no garages so the homeowners are right to be annoyed. The parking along the route is lamentable even on my road, removing more parking spaces will make the problem worse. No because I've only rode the 434 roughly 5 times and only once end to end. |

It's clear TfL want to abolish hail-and-ride, seems almost certain they'll consult on this (unless they actually listen to the opposition, which is unlikely)
However I can't agree that it's snobs that oppose fixed stops... as mentioned, some people require parking in densely populated car areas. While it's a good thing to get cars off the roads, it doesn't mean there should be nowhere at home to leave them, you can't have both scenarios.
I imagine they'll eventually try to do fixed bus stops on the 'Emlyn' area of the 272. Whilst these schemes may be possible, it doesn't always mean it's practical without causing genuine hardship

It's one of these situations where there is no simple solution. I think the solution on this one is "if it ain't broke.........." However, we will await TfL's justifying - no doubt it will be so wheelchair/elderly can reach the bus easily with more room for the bus to pull in and kneel. |

So you have used and example and said that this is not the case?  Confused! |

However, we get onto TfL for going ahead with things, but yet its Ok for councillors to reject things before its come out? I am all for 'fixed stops', especially in H&R areas were the buses do not operate like its a H&R. It looks like this one is solely for accessibility purposes, as they have ibus in places already. Clearly, putting in fixed stops is a costly operation for Tfl and their intentions are solely to provide a better service for not only current bus users but maybe future ones to. They aint going to be driving those cars all their lives. And if struggling to find a car parking space is the highest level of hardship I will face in my life, sign me up. |

Yes, but I'm sure Zubin will agree (I think this is his local route) that this problem is not evident on this route in particular You're right, it is my local route, as well as the 407  Most of the time, where the bus stops is not an issue, but where I get off outside Kenley Station, the bus stops just after the junction, blocking the traffic, due to the amount of parked cars. My opinion on the matter is that there should be fixed bus stops. I much prefer this to Hail and Ride, as people know where to go when they want to get the bus. It will also be more accessible and easier for the disabled. I think the 434 is the only route in the Croydon area which is hail and ride (thought the 463 got rid of its hail and ride), and I think TfL are pushing to abolish hail and ride altogether, they managed to do it for the K1 recently. The Kenley residents are opposing, especially by the station, but people along that road have driveways, and some people park there to use the station, when they can use the station car park instead. Northwood Avenue however, there is a problem, as some people do not have driveways on the route heading towards Coulsdon, so parking is an issue. The bus sometimes has to squeeze past. But surely there are some locations that can be suitable on that road for a bus stop to be implemented. |

I would call myself a snob if I believed that seeing as I wouldn't want fixed stops on my street either. |
