Out of all the Southern services not running tomorrow, there is still one line open, and this is an hourly service for some reason between London Victoria and, of all places, Caterham. One train will run throughout the day from Caterham to London Victoria, calling at Whyteleafe South, Whyteleafe, Kenley, Purley and London Victoria. All return journeys in the morning rush hour will be run as an Empty Coaching stock. Then there is a pause in the service from 14:00 until the rush hour when the first return train will operate, with the train running ECS from Caterham to London Victoria. First of all, I wonder why they've picked the Caterham line over other lines, such as the Sutton line or Tattenham Corner line, and secondly I wonder what units they will use. (I would most likely think that a 10 car 377/6 will be used, even though there are short platforms, people can still board via the fifth carriage at the stations along the line with a short platform and walk to the end)

Tattenham Corner is close-ish to Epsom (SWT), and Sutton will have a skeleton service in the shape of Thameslink for anyone brave or desperate enough - Worcester Park (SWT) and Morden (LU) are also a tolerable bus journey away. I think if the resources had been available Southern would have given the East Grinstead line preference, but there is a risk of making that service look 'too available' and consequently instantly overwhelmed - the stations along that line have a much bigger population catchment. Hence, I suspect, the omission of any stops north of Purley on the Caterham service. I am surprised they included a stop at Purley, in fact.

I used Thameslink to get to Wimbledon last time the strike was on, and this was actually pretty empty! But this was at 8:40,after the main rush, so I will be using this route again on Wednesday.

They won't guarantee a second person on the train. Without that they can get rid of them at will.
