Indeed, the C stock was very capable of hitting speed along the Circle Line whereas in comparison, it's the D stock that I find always just plods along slowly like a Brontosaurus plus the D stock just seems quite dingy inside even compared to the elderly 1972 stock on the Bakerloo. My own personal favourites were the 1967 stock on the Victoria Line - loved the styling and mixture of longitudinal and transverse seating and they were nippy buggers even at the end of their lives but as for current ones, it's everyone's hated stock that is the 1992 stock. Saunas on wheels and quite unreliable according to accounts but I just love the unique sound of them when they accelerate and slow down and they are very fast - that's the stock I'll miss the most out of the ones being removed in the next few years and into the 2020's though I can't wait to see the back of the 1973 stock on the Piccadilly Oi, wash your mouth out about the 92 stock. They are the best stock style wise. I love them. When they came out they were the best thing going, lol. I'm afraid I have to disagree . Yeah I know the 92 stock is fast and spacious inside but the lack of information screens, high pitched sounds upon mid-acceleration and floors that seem to have changed shape over time. I don't dislike the 92 stock and neither do I dislike any tube stock, but IMO it has to be my least favourite

I'm pretty sure they are, mine too. I agree that the 92s have the best design, ditto the 09s. Although I have to agree that they are like Saunas in summer, then again apart from the S stock what isn't?

The 09 stock aren't too bad for deep level stock TBH but I agree pretty much everything else is hot

I guess it'll be quite sad to see the D stock go, although it's my least favourite stock. I miss the C stock more - I always snubbed a D stock and waited for a C stock. I don't mind the S but I find them a bit dull - perhaps once the new signalling has been completed, the S stock will finally be able to reach their potential. Quite simply, my favourite stocks are the modern deep level ones - 1996, 1992, 2009 and 1995 in that order.

The seating was the best, try out the static exhibit at Convent Garden, warm welcoming lighting, and I used to love sitting in a motor car to listen to the controller clicking away. My grand parents lived in Shepherds Bush, and was my first experience of the '59/62 stock. It was a shock to see an unpainted train, I found the lighting too cold and too bright, and the seating arrangement not to my liking. To be honest I'm not enamoured to any of the more modern stock, and would lose money if I was asked to identify them. Anyway Merry Crimble to my reader and lets hope Santa brings us all a book token or three!

I think they just have so much character about them and love their initial pull away where the motor sounds like an F1 car 😆😆😆 As for the D stock...they lost their magic when they got refurbished and for that reason I'll be glad to see the back of them. Although, as a kid, I would always think of them as Barking and Upminsters version of the GER 315's ☺

Also love when the 96 stock wheels spin a bit in the rain when pulling away at outside stations, almost sounding like a ZF bus at the torque stage. At high speed both the 95 and 96 stocks sound like my washing machine on final spin.

The design is too 90s for me, yet it works on the DLR units!! The S stock are nice. Unfortunately that's the design people are going for now. I remember not liking the Enviro range when it first came out but it grew on me. I think the S stock will be like that too.

I had the honour of riding my first D stock train on the same day as my first Titan bus! I changed from route 87 to the District Line at Barking on 15.5.80.
My final D stock was on 25.7.15 and my final Titan in London was 8.11.99. My final Titan in the world was in Liverpool with GTL on 10.8.02.

It's January 2017 and the D Stock is still going on strong. A D Stock has just pulled into West Brompton Station and I there was me thinking that all the D Stock would have gone by the end of 2016.

A small number of trains have been held back while the S Stock goes away in small batches for modifications and fitment for future ATO signalling kit. I think they'll be around for a number of months yet but our resident LU drivers may know better than I do.

To be honest Mr. Snoggle, your understanding is the same as mine.....I don't know any dates/numbers to do with D stock. However, Mr. paulsw2 may be along soon with some info....
