No, Reading Buses did not operate the first low floor double decker, although Reading Buses has a good collection of similar buses to the operator which is the subject of this quiz.

Thamesdown?!? They have never bought a low floor decker (yet) and even today thier double deck fleet is full of Dominators, Fleetlines and VRs!
Not Yellow Buses either, thier oldest LFDD is only T reg, the first low floor double decker is a R reg!
NCT is close though, at least he is in the right city in which this operator is based. This should get things moving now then....

The answer is Abus of Bristol, whose Optare Spectra R222 AJP became the first LFDD to carry passengers when it was put into service in the morning of 4th February 1998. R222 AJP now carries the slogan "Britain's first low floor fully accessable low floor bus" in between the decks and under the windscreen!
Interestingly, Abus recieved the third LF Spectra produced, the first and second low floor Spectras built went to TWM. By chance conversion on 3rd Feb 1998, TWM revealed that they would debut thier Spectras at noon on 4th Febraury 1998, so a huge effort within Abus got thier Spectra out on a route at 0650 on the 7th Feb 1998, hence beating TWM by just a few hours!!
