On weekends and bank holidays throughout the Christmas holidays, new routemasters have been getting a taste of Essex tarmac, running duties on one of many Abellio Greater Anglia Rail Replacement bus services provided, between Shenfield and Ingatestone. On New Year's Day, when I went to Shenfield, I was aiming to get some photos and ride footage of Ensignbus' new Australian/Chinese built BCI buses, but I couldn't see any, so I decided to wait and see what would come along.
Surprisingly, an NRM popped out from around the corner bound for Ingatestone, and I decided to get a ride! Hybrid buses in Essex in my opinion are quite rare, and so this journey was very exciting not only for me, but for people living in Essex and for people who have never taken a ride on a hybrid bus, such as a family who were stunned after being able to access and experience a ride on a truly wonderful piece of British, 21st century, Heatherwick designed transport.
